how did this happen

Featured Replies

As above guys. Fitted new Tyres today and when removing the rears found that my eibach spacers that coat about 90 quid were buggered to say the least.

Could understand if they were cheapo eBay hobbies but not genuine eibach. Someone at the shop is guns get one whole lot of abuse tomorrow. Funny thing is I was going there tomorrow to get some 20mm spacers but like hell am I now.

So anyone any ideas how this could have happened or had it happen to you??

:(

Flaw in the material ?

Never seen one do that, see quite a few at work, all as good as gold.

At a guess misaligned when bolted back up or dropped and covered up by putting back in

Never seen any spacer do that, and would never expect an eibach prokit spacer to do it!

I had to bang the smaller ring out of the rim. The pic is passenger side rear and the drivers rear is cracked most of the way round in the same place. Could understand if it was the stress of the drive wheels.

I'd go with misaligned, especially when you look at the thread markings on the inside of the spacer holes. They are quite pronounced on one side and nothing on the other.

Never heard of spacers failing like this before.....and I've seen a lot of cars with them on!

The thread marking is from a piece of stud I used the line them up properly. Also the marking is on 4 sides of the holes like 12 3 6 and 9

Are they the right size for the wheels that there going on as if you had to knock the piece out then I'd have thought the spigot bit is too big for the wheel and is getting crushed slightly when you bolt the wheel up which will cause them to crack

99%sure they are. They place I got them from checked and said they were right and they fit as perfect as possible. Don't need to be banged in just snug fit.

I've seen this a few times with Eibach and FK spacers, it's something to do with too much pressure on the centre hub with the wheel mounting on there. Cheap welds that should be able to claim on warranty depending on the age of the spacer.]

It happened to a mates set a few weeks ago as well.

I hope these spacers have not have the spigot welded on as they should be one lump of metal.

Apparently its caused by the inner spigot being to shallow so when the wheels tightened it effectively stretched the spigot ring until it broke. Both replaced and now running tpi spacers all round so see how these last.

That's it, my mate did explain to me last time, but I couldn't for the life of me remember!
