How to get exhaust sitting better?

Featured Replies

On my VRS the exhaust hangs a little too low for my liking, sure other people must have found this!

From a quick look underneath the car, there is no adjustment in the exhaust hanger itself.

What have people done to rectify it?

Will a new hanger be tight again and solve it? Aftermarket hanger?

What about trying to bend the exhaust abit, sounds easy but can imagine being a right ballache in practice tho.

Any thoughts?

New rubbers probably.

Plus check that none of the hangers (metal or rubber) are broken.

Most people change the back box rubbers. One is on a bracket and the other is a Y shape.

Just changed mine made quite a difference. Cost just over £6 from skoda.

I used some free cable ties from work to prop it up a bit on the hangers! 8k miles on and it still works :o

Ah cable ties the best way to fix something lol

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

And don't forget bodge tape!

I also changed mine a few weeks ago, Skoda don't sell the rubbers seperately, they come with the hangars. Made a big difference!

If you don't have zip ties and duck tape in your car you are not a real car person! FACT he he :)

Mines also a bit low, anyone know the part numbers for whats required?

2 x thick cable ties. Simples.

didnt think of cableties to be honest, worth a shot if not a new hanger it is.

Thanks peeps.

you can buy uprated exhaust rubbers that dont sag. or just buy standards

Im all for camble ties in the short term though

Cable ties will stretch when they get hot though.....

Wrap em around the existing rubber and use the 1cm thick ones, been fine for months.

you can just get the hanger replacements, I ordered from VW quoting Skoda part numbers

You can see old verses new and how old ones have stretched

Cable ties will melt when they get hot though.....

Edited for you

Nah they wont if you use your noddle!! You can get metal cable ties anyways! They wont melt from an exhaust

I just used a couple of smal ones and theyre still there 6 months on and exhaust is still looking bang tidy

+1

no reason the cable ties will melt as the section you fit cable ties to is not directly in line of the heat.

This is where I had mine fitted .

Idea is aid the strain on the rubber from the weight of the rear box and supplement it with the cable ties

  • 4 years later...

Just done this job on mine after the joining sleeve corroded away to nothing.

Also fixed the centre mount with jubilee clips (weld often breaks away leaving section unsupported)

Now all hanging together much better, and tailpipe tucked up nicely against cut out
