Advice regarding Tracking

Featured Replies

Hello,

Back in Febuary I popped a post up regarding me hitting a pot hole, blowing a tyre and knocking my tracking out. When I took the car to a local National Garage they pointed out my console bushes where shot and the pot hole hit could have damaged my ball joint/wishbone. Not wanting to leave anything to chance I changed the bushes for the Powerflex 2 parts and replaced both wishbones and ball joints. After that I took it back to National (a different garage due to sunday openings) where they tracked the car.

Since then I've noticed my steering wheel is out of line (if I level it off the car pulls to the right) and at high speeds (anything over 45mph) I get a slight shaking.

TBH it hasn't bothered me until I noticed my tyers are wearing on the insides but not the out. I had this issue with another set before I replaced the bushes.

Since I don't want to take to National again just to be ripped off (again) I was wondering what else could be causing the issue of uneven tyre wear and what I should ask a garage for if I want the whole camber setup being checked too?

Sorry for the long story but I think people should know the issues I've had so far.

Pulling to the right is odd, usualy the fabia pulls to the left, I would hazard a guess to the bottom ball joint/s and also the track rod ends, the camber can't be adjusted on a fabia, only toe can be adjusted. Google 4 wheel laser alignment where you live, it should come up with a few options

Well National Garage used a laser system to confirm nothing was the matter however the only thing left that hasn't been changed are the track rod ends. Could this really be the culprit?

If it was a national chain big tyre place............most really don't have the knowledge to properly track a car...........some will move the steering wheel on it's splines, and some will just move one track rod end!

The steering wheel needs to be at 12 o'clock in the centre of it's full range of movement and locked/braced in that position.......then the track rod ends need to adjusted to bring each wheel into correct alignment!

List of good indi aligners........my local is on here!

It was this company that did the work - http://www.national.co.uk/

The first garage were very good at letting me know about the bush failures however the second just seem to whip the car in and out. :(

Thanks for the link. Theirs a garage near me listed on the site.

Hmm I've had a quick chat to one of the lads at Awesome and if the track rod ends don't resolve the issue they have recommended replacing the sub frames. :( Has anyone else had this issue?

Buying two new tyres every 6 months is going to kill my bank account. :(
