Discounts on New Prices?

Featured Replies

Seeing that Skoda UK have a 'Save 20% VAT' and 3 years free servicing offer, what are the chances of getting anymore money off a new car?

You can look at websites like 'drive the deal' (car broker) and they will do a VRS £1250 cheaper than the VAT price, but this includes a £500 discount for taking finance, so effective discount is £750.

I'd never use drive the deal or the like as I always trade in, and would always like to know the dealer is local. But like many, I like to save the most money possible, so should you push for more than the VAT discount?

Yep always push for more, there is always room for negotiation. I played three dealers against each other and achieved a very good deal on a factory order vrs.

use drivethedeal, you will probably find that the dealer they put you in touch with will let you trade in. If not sell private or sell to another indy dealer or a car buying company. If you are saving that much over a local dealer it has to be worth a little extra hassle.

Myself, I would never trade in a car, I look after them too much to be insulted by a ridiculous book price of average condition.

Some dealers will price match the internet, weve done that twice. If you have sold privately then its easier to drive a deal with a dealer. If you agree a deal with PX ask the dealer if he will accept the same in cash as hes valued your car at when your new toy is delivered. That way you can advertise your car for more whilst waiting for yours & stand a chance of making a bit more, we have done that as well with the Superb as the dealer offered us didly squat for it, Ill add it wasnt a Skoda dealer, we were trying to offload it when we bought the Abarth

Skoda will if pushed give you a dealer list, just say you are looking to buy a new car & are wanting to see the car / colour combination for real before ordering & you want to find a deler who has one, new or s/hand, Then its just a case of a few hours on the phone until you find someone who will match. We found one who got to £50 above DTD but as he taxed it for a year & DTD did 6 months we actually drove a better deal

happy hunting

I used DTD last year and would recommend them every time; basically they were/are an 'introductions agency' and once ordered you do all your business, including paying any deposit, with whichever main dealer they are using at the time. For me that was Marlborough Skoda in West London.

I saved £6.5k on list price, and even when factoring in the then current VAT 'free' deal a dozen or so local Skoda dealers could get nowhere near the price, think the closest was still £1200 off! Despite wanting to keep local I'm afraid the price differential was just too great to ignore. Even having to get to London to collect the car wasn't enought to offset the substantial cost saving.

Thanks for all the replys, some really good advise and stuff I hadn't thought of.

I'd like the idea of putting ours up forsale while we wait the 10-12 week factory order time. They have offered around £1800 less than the dealer forecourt price, and that is more than most other make dealers have. So I'd try a selling for £1000 more than they have offered, if it sells it sells.

Bit busy over the weekend, but may try and push a bit more on Monday.
