AC trouble_Squealing when Running but producing cold Air

Featured Replies

Hello, I am driving Skoda Octavia - TDI1.9, I am wondering if anyone can help with the trouble i am facing with AC. It is squealing when running. And the Rad Fan (Big One) is not working when AC is switched on. I checked with the mechanic and he asked me to change the compressor and it is going to be expensive solution. I am just trying to figure out the cause of squealing, AC is working fine but the squealing is making me crazy. Please help!!!

Sounds like a problem with the fan controller. This powers the radiator fans and the magnetic clutch on the compressor. If the voltage is low at the a/c clutch, then it will slip on the pulley and squeal. Check the fuses on top of the battery.

Not just a loose belt is it? Only the smaller fan comes on with aircon the big one is for the engine

drop some water on the belt, like 50 ml,if it stops ,you need a new belt,if not, might be the tensioner

Both fans should come on at stage 1 (low speed)

Is it normal when immediatly after switching AC on fans will come on at max speed , as this is happening to me ?

With some fan controllers, you get stage 2 (high speed) if the stage 1 fuse is blown. If the fans are already running at stage 1, switching on the a/c can cause the fans to run at stage 2.

The fans are not running when i switch on AC so i have to look for a blown fuse then , where ?

The fan control unit is fed by two of the fuses on top of the battery - the third of the bolt down fuse links and the green fuse nearest to them

Thank you!! Please help me, how to check the fan controller is work

ing fine?? The fuse is common for both Rad fans??

In the UK, one fuse feeds the stage 1 (slow speed) of both fans and the other fuse feeds the stage 2 (high speed) of both fans.

The easiest method to check if low voltage is the causing the squealing noise, is to disconnect the magnetic clutch at the compressor and apply 12V directly to it. If the a/c compressor runs without squealing, you know the problem is the fan controller or the wires to it.

Hello, I checked both fuses and they are fine. I replaced the Rad fan (Big One) as it was not working even after applying direct supply. The fan is working now. But, the sound still remains same. The sound is coming as and when i am speeding up the car. The gear rod is vibrating a bit with this sound, its weird.

The AC is running perfect if the car is steady and producing cool air too. I showed it to the local Mechanic and he observed the sound is coming from compressor. And it needs to be replaced. It is going to be very expensive solution. Please help me if the problem can be solved with some other solution.

Sounds like the compressor is starting to seize up to me, making hence the judering on the engine
