Now i Know why rover went bust!

Featured Replies

Today i drove from peterborough to worthing in a hire car that my work supplied, now first id like to thank work for giving the car they did it coudl have been worse it coudl have been french!

It was an MG ZR 1.6ltr 05 plate and had only 845ish miles on it! but what a sack of crap, rattly doors from the start, a stero with cd changer a only one speaker that worked, god awful cheap feeling platic dash and buttons, nice seats and steering wheel tho...

then on to how it handled and drove, my god english engineering really pulled one out there ass with this one, get this, suspension that clunked anbanged and was rock hard over every bump, but soft as **** when the car turned and the rear wheels seemed at be alwasy sevral seconds behind the front, so it woudl be... turn wheel nose moves wait wait wait oh and the backs enventually made it ...almost like it was a tralior !!

the seetring was un communicating with the driver and the slightest of bump woudl knock the car off course and under hard braking it squrirmed like a mouse with its tail in a trap... scared me a few times and wasnt no where near pushing it.. it didnt give me the confidence

and the 1.6 engine unless you kept it screaming at 4 - 5,000rpm was soo guttless my sofa could out performe it ! dont even bother with putting your foot down in top... lots of changing down... not sure why but the accelarator pedal had a bout 3 inch of play before it went stiff and the car revved made it very jerky in traffic there was no realy control over how much gas you gave it..... i assume they expect you to have your foot in two position on or off coz the engine is so gutless..

im not sure what these sold for before the recent events... but if you test drove one of these and anything else in its range ie civic type s, or fabia , you deffo would have chosen one over this and i thought the MG badge was the 'high' end of rover so god knows what teh rest of rover must be like !

im also assuming beacuse the MG ZR is a tarted up rover 25 it actaully has the same suspension set up, and engine as the 25 so maybe that why it was so dia !

They are practically antiques though - I think the blueprints are on parchment.

I had an extended test drive of the ZT-T before buying my Octy and I was very impressed, well put together, quiet, fast (for a big car) the only downer was that the dealer wouldn't be moved on the price and was only offering a paltry px on my old car.

They decided to shelve the latest new model when the rumours started going about that they were going to close.....

:)

Remember also that Rover was probably in deep **** already by the time those 05 regs were built.

Some Rovers are ok, not great, but ok. Worst thing is that they were not viable any longer and haven't been for a long time due to this passing about of the company by BMW and others.

Considering thousands of people have lost their jobs recently though, it makes me feel a little awkward about making jokes about it. That said, probably not a bad thing to keep a sense of humour

Like the road Test commentry , noticed that the suspension etc got you really bad,as it looked like you were typing the report while driving. Love the deliberate spelling mistakes ;):)

hey i typed that at 10:30pm ish ...id been up since 5.30am and on the road for 8 hrs that day, i was a finding hard to focus on the screen lol... but was aiming for it to read like i was in the car like you may hear on a motoring show...

Oh and have since found out it may of been a 1.4 as they dont do a 1.6 that woudl explaine the gutlessness.... so i surpose that not so much of an issue now

Joel

I take it you didn't like it then? ;)
