Dance - lousy reception, but menu says aerial on - why?

Featured Replies

My father's 2007 Roomster has a big problem - the radio is lousy. The weird thing is that if I disconnect the antenna (behind the coupe light) it goes from bad to zero reception, and the menu says aerial is on when it's connected, but off when it's disconnected. Does anybody hav an idea what that may be? I know all about the faulty aerials on VAG cars (I have an Octavia 2000 that has changed the aerial, and I have helped my neighbour doing that on both a Passat and two Audis), but that's usually because of corrosion damaging the amplifier. And from what I know that would have made the menu show "off". Any help and suggestions would be appreciated! This is a factory mounted Dance system, and it all worked nicely when he bought the car. As far as I know nothing has been changed since then.

I don't know about 2007, but my 2011 Roomster has part of the aerial in the centre of the windscreen. Has your fathers car had a replacement screen at sometime, and if so has it a thin black line from top to 3/4 way down the centre of the screen.

Thanks for answering, but no, nothing like that. The 2007 only has the front roof antenna, as far as I know. And I do know that my father hasn't had the winshield replaced. I know exactly what you're talking about, my own Touran has that type of antenna in the rear quarter windows. :)

There is a setting in the dance unit for areas with poor FM recption. It can be activated with VCDS if you have someone close by

Thanks, I do have a neighbour with the top of the line unit. :) But that shouldn't really make the radio suddenly go bad after having worked fine the first 3-4 years (my father bought the cvar slightly used). So I still think there is something technically wrong there. Besides this is by no means a difficult area, I have crystal clear FM radio on my Touran (but I'm getting a DAB+ RCD 310 from Australia this week since that's the only country that does DAB+ exclusively, I have to order from there to get that). And like I said that doesn't even have an aerial on the roof, they are in the rear windows.
