High Idle

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Third day of ownership and I have been happy thus far. But today I noticed that the engine was revving pretty high 1000+ rpm. Did a search on the forum looks like a new throttle pedal. Must add not to long ago its a cam belt replaced, timing issue perhaps?

Question is do you think I could get it fixed by the dealer I bought it from? (Not a Skoda main dealer) They gave me 3 months warranty for any mechanical faults.... Worth a shot?

Mine does this every so often, sometimes..... 1500, 1200 and 1000 depending the mood of the car. Went to skoda for a diagnostic but nothing found. starting to grate now

Throttle position sensor

where is it located?

Most occasional "high idle" incidents are caused by the throttle pedal not being adjusted correctly. If your engine is idling high, put your foot under the pedal & lift gently. If the idle returns to normal, it'll be the pedal potentiometer (inside the pedal "box").

Take it off, examine the paint-mark on one of the screws & if it's moved, undo the screws until they are finger-tight and twist it back to where it was before.

Sometimes, the adjustment needs to go past where the marks line up to make the car idle where it should (900 +/- 50 rpm).

Note: only do this when the engine is at running temperature, to avoid screwing up the fast-idle at cold.

Thanks everyone, I did just try lifting the pedal with my foot and the rpm came down. I'll open it up on the weekend and post back with a follow up.

Don't suppose anyone I could bribe anyone with VAGCOM to enable the auto lock feature?

So did mine, although mines intermittent.

So was mine. Usually drawing up to my house, where I'd swing over to reverse in to the drive...at lights and out on the road, it wouldn't happen. Adjusting it sorted it out though!
