Foul smelling air from demister

Featured Replies

When selecting screen demist, the button on the left of the panel, foul air comes into cabin. This does not appear to happen when you select any other vent position. Anyone got any advice on what I should do to rectify? When I complained about this to my local Skoda dealer when the car was in for a clutch master cylinder and radio aerial amplifier replacements under the 12 month used car warranty, they suggested I get the air con serviced. Well I am £59 lighter in the wallet and the smell is still there.

I changed the pollen filter (again £8 off eBay - genuine Skoda) at the same time just incase.

Pollen filter is the cause of the foul smell. When using the aircon on cold turn it off 5 mins before you reach your destination. Shouldn't happen again.

You could try taking the pollen filter out and having a sniff to see if it's the source of the stench.

It's under the glove box in the passenger footwell. Get right underneath, two plastic screws to remove the cover, then another cover slides off and the pollen filter just pulls out. No tools needed.

If it's not that, one of the air con cleaning products might help.

We had a similar smell in our fabia after it was valeted.

We blamed the seats and carpets not being dried correctly, and so did the dealer, so he had it cleaned again.

Smell still there but disappeared after treating aircon matrix with deodoriser.

No idea of cost as it was done with a voucher as part of the annual service..

Car smells as fresh as a daisy now
