Yay! Cracked a piston o_O

Featured Replies

Anybody know what parts are involved to 2.0 (pd140/170) this money pit? keep the pd150 hybrid or have to lose it?

Better off just finding a bottom end from a scrapper and changing it complete. If one piston is gone, chances are the other three have damage too. It is a rare failure on the PD engine though. Yours is probably only the second PD130/150 engine I've known to knacker a piston.

my exhaust was loose off the turbo (sounded like external waste gate to atmosphere lol) and oil went everywhere around the engine bay. would this have come up through the small bit of piston missing? would this have caused heat or anything to destroy the engine?

I was sitting at about 70 on cruise control when the turbo sounded dodgey and then i floored it and nothing then looked out the back window and saw that I was endangering other motorists with a whiteout and pulled over and cut it out asap!

Not had much luck with this car lately. It's going to be a new car by the time im done with it!

just aswell no one brought it then !!

How much should I expect to pay for a re-bore?

Think my mate got his vr6 rebored for £35 per bore at a place near me. So shouldnt expect its that much

Realistically it aint going to be cheap, probably only worth it if you are going for really big power with ported head, big turbo, higher flowing injectors etc...

That said, i'd love to see someone do this!

I'd charge £100 cash to rebore a block at mate's rates. That includes bore, hone skim and then a really good wash off. Retail price depends on where you take it really, can be about £150-£200

For that money, would it not be better to go 2L 16V conversion rather than reboring and new pistons etc?

Anyone know if the platforms are similar at all?

2L 16v conversion would be a lot more money than making a 1.9 into a 2.0. you'd need a new turbo and the downpipe would need at least altering, as would the inlet and boost piping. not sure it's 100% straight forward to run the 2.0 injectors on the 1.9 injectors although I've seen people running the 16V head on a 1.9 so it would seem to be possible. plus there's the cost of buying the engine in the first place
