Exhaust upgrade

Featured Replies

Apart from noise, what could I expect from fitting a cat back exhaust from blueflame or miltek fit example. Is non resonated the noisier version?

I have had the Blueflame turbo back with a 200cel cat, it is pretty quiet really. Quite bassey/rubbling low down but once you are moving, not a lot of extra sound over the standard one. Has a nicer sound when giving it some but not as nice as my E90 325i with the BMW PE.

Non - resonated is the noisey one, people have said too noisey.

Performance is negligable, the downpipe and cat are the key things to change for performance and if you are doing that then I'd go with pipewerx as their DP/Cat is a direct fit on the OEM system.

I'm getting new back box and pipes for mine. Bit more noise and bigger pipes.

Interestingly Blueflame claim 8-10% increase in power for a catback system, that's around 20bhp which I thought was extravagant without changing the cat. I was hoping for a more mellifluous tone, bit more presence and rasp than the standard one; more Alfa than chavved up Corsa.

Not much rasp with the blue flame, I had a scorpion on my mk1 and that was raspy but also too laud when cruising.

would changing the downpipe and decat pipe on standard system be of any good?

Changing the downpipe for an aftermarket one with a sports cat or a decat is the best bang for buck.

90% of the performance gain from a full system but half the price. Only downside is that you only get a little more sound.

Best bet is pipewerx for just a downpipe as theirs fits the OEM exhaust, blue flame needs an adapter.

Doesn't this require a stage 2 remap?

Or a custom stage 1 otherwise it will give a CEL for emissions I expect.

I've recently fitted a Blueflame DP and decat to my vRS, it gives a CEL light due to emissions so you need to get that sorted,

The difference, even before the remap was unreal, the turbo spools up so much quicker, I'd imagine if you even removed the OEM downpipe and smashed out the pre cat at the turbo, you would get some noticeable gains for the sake of a few hours labour if your a DIYer...

No cell for me when I used a 200 cel cat, neither pipewerx of Blueflame caused issues.

Are people happy with their Blueflames then? Had one on my Elise and it sounded nice but the fit wasn't great.

I've got a full milltek de-cat system on my Fabia. Sound wise when travelling at normal speeds there's no difference, when you put your foot down you get a relatively loud boomy noise but it isn't horrendous. Performance wise the turbo pick up benefits are very good. You will notice a major difference over the original system.

i admit, the fit is within tolerance but not perfect. Had to bend one of the hangers a little to prevent it touching over the rear axle.

But that was a very small tweak and the build quality is otherwise excellent.

Just for a back cat? Numbers?

like most of the upgrades ive put on my Fabia it feels like you take a step forward in performance. the decat exhaust gives you a real noticeable difference in throttle response and overall performance, but i couldnt say exactly how much power gain you get. Definitely one of the best systems to recommend seeing as most hybrid owners go down this route. I dont kno what numbers you're looking for, if youre anywhere near portsmouth you can go all in with jkm motorsport for the system supplied and fitted at around 500. My fabia at the moment is running at 210bhp and 370lb/ft of torque.
