Skoda Superb TDI - is 1,6L enough?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

I'm about to buy a Skoda Superb and was wondering if the 1,6L TDI engine (105 bhp/77kw performance, 250Nm Torqu) feels enough for the comparably large car? I know a 2,0L TDI feels great in the smaller Octavia, which makes me think the 1,6 would be a bit overwhelmed in the Superb (sedan, by the way). Just to point it out - I'll be using the car for daily commuting and longer business travels, no racing on the Autobahn. :p

Has anyone experience with this?

Thank you in advance!

Dad had one for a weekend when looking for a company car. It was ok and quite capable but it wasnt quick and with a full load it struggled. It is designed for low emissions and fuel economy. The superb feels lots better with the bigger engines.

The problem with smaller enginers in bigger/heavier cars is that you have to work them harder to make decent progress.

The quoted MPG may seem attractive but unless you drive sedately all of the time then its difficult to achieve them.

We have a PD140 in our Octavia and I wouldn't want any less let alone in the Superb.

The best thing to do is take an extended test drive to be sure...

Thank you both, Chris and Silver! I think a longer test drive is exactly what I'll do. The large price difference is hard to justify if I won't use the potential of the 2,0L too often. But let's see.
