Alpine ipod on Maxidot? Will it/won't it?

I'm getting an Alpine 117Ri headunit fitted (Dec 08 Octavia just pre-facelift), and one of the reasons why was that the Alpine site shows it as being compatibile with the vehicle displays.

I've got Maxidot, and and Stream MP3, and can see the radio station on the Maxidot - so that works. (Not sure why, doesn't really add anything!). What I hope is that I can use the Maxidot to go through the iPod menus, but the dealer says that Alpine say it will only work if the Octavia has an OEM Sat Nav. The installer said it MIGHT work..... Oddly, it would work on a Roomster/Fabia but only if it replaced an OEM radio and not the satnave.

Does anyone have any experience of whether it will or won't work on my car?
