Superpro or PowerFlex

Featured Replies

So I think it's probably time to replace the wishbone bushes and since labour is a big old chunk of the bill, I think that the Polybush option might be a good call.

I know a lot of people used powerflex and now a lot of people say SuperPro are better bushes, but which would you go with?

The powerflex are about £30 cheaper for the pair and come with a lifetime warranty, whereas the superpro are 3 years /36k warranty only, but the rear bush has a metal support.

Thoughts appreciated, as I'd like to get these ordered up ASAP.

I'm slightly shocked that nobody has an opinion on this, it's usually fairly one way or the other :o

Looking to place an order, so if anyone has experience of either, then your input would be really appreciated.

My three pen'oth. I have superpro. The ones with the offset hole, giving a similar effect to the WALK. Cost anout £80? or half the WALK. Am I right, the Powerflex is just a straight replacement? So I guess that explains the price difference.

Easy to fit, I was having an alignment done afterwards anyway. As you may imagine, I haven't tried the powerflex option as the superpro is still fine, after about 12-15 000miles. I also had a RARB fitted before the alignment but the package together was a complete transformation. Turn-in much better, front and rear stability an order of magnitude better, no more wallowing and lurching towards the outside of bends - just power through. Improved fuel consumption too despite being able to now DRIVE the car. Even the ol' lady noticed and said how much better it was.

I've got superpro standard replacements ones and and the ride is fine. I bought the full front wishbone kit which costs about £110

Tis the kit I'm looking at, although I'm wondering if the three year warranty is an indication of life or just being conservative.

The OEM ones have been ok, and the only reason I'd got for anything other than OEM again, is if they'll not need changing for a greater time period than the OEM ones. That's the pitch, so I'm curious as to who if anyone has run these for extended periods and high mileages.

Had a chat with a workshop and they stated that they wouldn't suggest OEM ones, on the basis that I'd be in again in 6 to 12 months getting them redone.

Fairly good chat and the chap pointed to the voiding, combined with winter and salt and it being natural rubber not helping the case.

He actually suggested using PU bushes, but stated that powerflex ones they had fitted were are pretty firm in their experience and more like an upgrade for tracking. He suggested superpro or polybush as more just OEM ones built properly. Since the super pro have metal rings around them and to all intents and pupose seem the same as the OEM ones, minus the voiding, they do look like the better more.

Basically a pair of OEM equivalent bushes.

Does anyone know if any of the aftermarket people who make good OEM quality parts do them without the voiding?

Arn't some of the sporty audi/seat ones devoid of voids?

May be diferent geometry though.

The Audi TT ones are devoid of voids and solid, but you have to buy the bush and the metal casing, then push the bush out of the casing and into the new casing. Bearing in mind the prices for those parts, it works out as much to buy those as to buy the full superpro kit for the front wishbones.

I'll have a look, see if they can't be got cheaper, as if I'm going to do the rear bushes, I might as well do the front too while it's all out.

The extra bushes are about £20 and the labour seems to be a touch under 1.5 hours per side.

So I guess it's a case of price, because if the aftermarket ones are as good/better in terms of age and also cost £25% less, it would be a bit crazy to go for OEM. If the price is the same, then that's different.

TBH, looking at the condition of the OEM rear wishbone bushes in there, I think I'll be looking at all the other lower bushes and seeing how much the winter salt/age has affected them too.
