Picture request, race blue hatch with tinted windows

Featured Replies

Am thinking I might have to get tints to replace the blinds at some point anyway as Noah has started messing around with them!

They all do that - even if you get some they can't reach they still strain and stretch and whine trying to get at them.

It's why my mate ditched his blinds and got tints and why I got tints soon as the new car was bought.

Downside to tints is they they can't be removed in the dark but once you actually get the tints done you stop caring about that (and I don't have to worry about the missus as we have parking sensors now.

Just get the tints - better in the long run ;)

Guys

Be aware that VOSA and the Police are really clamping down on illegal tints. One of the guys at work was nicked about four months ago in his 3 series.

BLUEVRS2 - there is no such thing as "legal" - if you've added >any< tints to the front they are almost certainly illegal because your windows had a tint in the first place. To be fair, yours actually look OK to me but but it really does depend on how anal the copper / VOSA guy is.

KUKA - I reckon yours are a guaranteed nick mate so avoid the stripey cars :giggle:

I had some tints on a previous car, got tugged at a motorway services and I was lucky - I was given the option - remove them or take the £60 fine and three points. Trust me there is nothing worse than stripping off a set of tints you paid money for :-( Don't assume you'd get the choice.

Item from the web:

Pc Ian Leyland, a road safety officer, said: “There seems to be an increasing trend by some motorists to fit tinted film or glass to the windows of their vehicles. Nearly all manufacturers have a small amount of tinting as standard on vehicle glass, but any extra tinting to the two front side windows or windscreen will, in most circumstances, make their vehicles illegal.”

Had mine done yesterday by Vampire Tints in Penge for £180. Very happy with the outcome... No pics to hand yet.

Well the Policeman who had a look around my car two years ago (was pulled for speeding  ) and he loved mine, never batted an eyelid on the tints

No guarantee another won't though. Even the hitler-esque traffic cop that had me up on some trumped up DWDCA charge (found not guilty in court) and who had asked me "that'll be your car with the illegal number plate then" never actually wrote me up on the easy ticket. I've had numerous Traffic cops behind me, even in front of one at a petrol pump, nothing. Some general beat cop then decides to pull the missus last Christmas eve having observed her coming out the local Chinese with a takeaway.....

Edit:: not that it matters much, but before people think my illegal reg is some italic, bordered, squashed up number plate bolted affair I will point out that have altered the grouping only i.e. instead of it being "A123 XYZ" it is "A12 3XYZ"

As long as it passes a light meter test, mine does, they can say what they like .I know my rights

Alls well then.

Out of interest, what did you have added to the front? I was also under the impression that the windows were the already at the maximum legal tint level....

This should clarify things for anyone wanting to know.

Its 1 of them for me, everyone to their own. I know mine are subject to inspection if im stopped, however im prepared to have that risk as thats how i wanted my windows :)

Iv had this level of tint on all my cars the past 4 years and only ever been pulled once by police about them who issued a £60 fine.
