Target price & pcp for a petrol VRS?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have began to negotiate with my local dealer about an Octavia Vrs after seeing the recent promo from Skoda (Vat free & £500 deposit contribution with 3 yr servicing) and they are due to be back in touch tomorrow with figures.

What kind of figures do people think I should be targeting? All of the above incentives are direct from skoda so would I be right in thinking that the dealers would still have some margin to give up?

I'm looking to get a hatch in black, with maxidot and the new black interior package.

Anybody on PCP care to share what there monthly payment is? I know the costs would vary depending on deposit so I'm only really looking for ball park figures.

I bought several new cars before (all Renault sport models) and I have always managed to drive a fairly hard bargain by researching on forum first but I'm a little stuck with Skoda so any help would be appreciated. Don't want the salesman to take me for a ride!

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm glad you asked this, I'm the exact same position. A friend on mine said go in and agree a price on a standard VRS and then ask for the extra's you want on top, or walk away.

Not sure that'd work though, suppose it's dependant on how much of a margin they've got to play with and how much they want the sale?

In fact, are you me? Seeing as we're both in Yorkshire and both have a Clio Sport?

Aim to pay £16800 OTR for the basic car. Extras will be the list price minus VAT.

Best deal I could get on my estate was £17800 basic price. Then take off the £500 for the deposit contribution.

Dunno about finance because I took it out and then paid it off.

I don't think I'm you... But you never know, it's a small world!?! Is your Clio silver?!

The dealer had already began to push me towards pre built cars rather than factory orders but I've no intention of paying for options I don't want unless they are effectively free. I'm going softly softly, find out there "normal" price then hammer them down from there.

Just done a bit of googling and Drive The Deal can offer me the spec I'm after for £16.4k and mention the skoda finance offers but that doesn't say anything about the deposit contribution so that maybe already considered in the price.

So do you add the extra's to the price, after the 20% off the list price?

Or, deduct the 20% when you've totalled up exactly what you want spec wise?

Fewie, my Clio is Silver. Haha - I'm weirded out. Although just realised you're after a petrol and I'm wanting a diesel.

My understanding is the 20% discount applies to it all, including extras like metallic paint and options such as maxidot.

sihaworth, you trading the Clio or selling private? I'm fairly set on the petrol as I only do 10k miles a year but I'm gonna drive a diesel out of curiosity. Reckon the diesel is the better long term investment.

Trading it. They offered me 1k for it a couple of months ago and I'm hoping that will still be the same when I go back in the coming weeks. It's an 02 plate, just done 82k miles. I probably could get more for it privately as is always the case, but having never done it before I'm not sure I can be arsed with the hassle.

I think we would only do 10k miles but I'm really drawn towards the diesel for some reason and when I test drove it, I just fell in love. Loved the torque and power delivery of it.

Have to let me know how you get on. Drivethedeal currently beating Skoda by £900 or so for my ideal spec at the mo.

Having looked at trade in values on Parkers for 3 yr old examples it would appear that a diesel holds its value better by some £2.4K!! Considering there's only £800 in it new I may be swinging the diesel way!

At sihaworth, you'd definitely get £1500 if its a straight example mate, you can't get a ph2 172 for less than 2k. Try the classified forums on Cliosport.net mate. Reckon someone would snap your hand off.

To work out the VAT 'free' price get the price list and its lists the price before and after VAT so just use the before VAT price.

The residual on a Diesel is quite strong at the moment and looking at that on a PCP it makes the monthly cost between a diesel and petrol minimal.

When I bought mine recently, from time of order toe time of collection the residual on the car I was having was stronger, the £500 deposit from Skoda had come into play, so my monthly cost came down by just under £50 per month so I was very pleased with that.

To get an idea of prices go on to Drive The Deal and look at what it comes out to on the monthly finanace calculator, however, I have always found what the dealer has offered me on a monthly charge to be better than what DTD shows.

I paid £17,950 for the car (last week)

£3500 down, £217 over 3 years with skoda finance

Plus final payment of £9k something.

looking at current values of diesel DSG Hatchbacks it will definitely be worth more than that.

looking through autotrader / eBay there don't seem to be a great deal of CR DSG hatches in blue :-)

@ xpower, £18k for Diesel with DSG seems an excellent price, any additional spec barring metallic?

The PCP seems more than reasonable too, does the 3.5k deposit include skoda's £500 or is that on top?

Petrol book prices drop very rapidly after 3yr. Trade isn't particularly interested in them as they can be hard to shift. That might also be down to the silly forecourt prices in many places too. There is a big gap between the trade-in (CAP/Green book) prices and what you see on the forecourt.

If you're getting a new VRS for £16800 that's pretty good. It's about what I paid 5yr ago.

I don't do enough mileage to make a significant saving with fuel costs on Diesel, and the tax saving is next to nothing in the real world which can easily be offset when you consider the petrol will never need a cam belt...

Just the depreciation on the petrol that concerns me. Need to test drive both really. I've driven a petrol VRS before but never a diesel, may hate it!

You won't hate the Diesel, trust me........I only do about 9k a year. 18 miles round trip to and from work and I get 47mpg. This is my first Diesel and I don't regret it.

Diesel test drive booked for Friday. Unfortunately they don't have a petrol for me to drive at all! May have to look further away!

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I didn't get the extra £500 deposit, long story! No additional spec as I retrofitted aftermarket reverse sensors (total cost painted was £26, and blend in better than the OEM, can post pic up if wanted by someone) and I already had a parrot bluetooth kit which I moved into the vRS and it works great. I thought £217 pm was very reasonable for what I am getting :-)

Have you booked a test drive of a manual or DSG diesel? I drove both and after driving the DSG the manual felt a bit 'cheap' plus the DSG is amazing around the scottish country lanes :-)

Each to their own though, drive them and make up your own mind.

@ xpower, they have both manual and DSG to drive.

Do you mind me asking the gfv of yours with £217 a month PCP? I've had my quote back, petrol with metallic and maxidot/black interior pack is £354 a month with a £1k total deposit!

The Problem with buying the petrol on PCP is that they depreciate loads quicker, On PCP you essentially pay the depreciation.

So the petrol costs more per month, costs more in fuel, the DSG one costs LOADS more to tax, the only good thing is its faster and not a derv.

Your quote is only putting 1k down but £354 is a lot of money!!!

My deal was £3500 down, £217 pm for 36 months with a GFV of £9,39 if memory serves me correct.

If I was paying cash then maybe the TFSI but on PCP it has to be the CR.

Ps. if you buy the DSG diesel you get maxi dot included free

Xpower can I see your reverse sensors? Where did you get the work done?

The sensors are these for £14.50, I just brought any colour as they were going to be painted

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220864142753?var=520050149200&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3265wt_1144

The paint I brought from the dealer for £12 so £26.50 all in and their easy to paint as they are small.

The kit even comes with everything including the hole cutter to cut the right size hole in the bumper, I fitted them myself in about 1 hour. I will post up a pic tomorrow.

Ah the thought of cutting wholes in a brand new vRS sends shivers down my spine.

Mine was 1 hour old and had 10 miles on the clock when I did it :-)

Cheaper than paying £300 as an option

I'm sure there's money to be had of £354 deal on the petrol as I let them just make me up a quote with no real pressure for a deal so I'm assuming it full price (less the skoda help).

They did attempt to sell me showroom vrs hatch saying they could do a cracking deal but it seems total spec (or very high) so regardless of the deal on offer I reckon it'd be more than I wanted to pay.

I'll drive the diesel Friday then if impressed I'll work on a deal.
