Cheap Octavia Scout

Featured Replies

A nice project for someone.

Cat D, 2008 (58), 38,000 miles.

If it was straight this Scout would fetch £12,000 easy, assuming it doesn't require jigging I reckon you could get this back on the road for £6K.

You could run it for a year and still turn a profit!

I know it's popped both bags but I'm actually quite suprised it was written off - unless there is some hidden damage underneath...

I would have exoected it to be totalled with that damage but to me it looks as though it may have been partly stripped, this may have been for the estimate or they may have started a repair & found more wrong, A friends looking for one so thanks for the heads up, we will give it a coat of looking at. If s/hand parts can be found it should stack up just, Cat D's are usually worth 60-70% of list so the numbers will be close but hes looking for a keeper anyway

I think these salvage companies often strip off the loose / severely damaged components (such as the front bumper) just to neaten them up a little and to take away the in-your-face aspect of the fact the car has been in a smash.

If you look at the support panel that would ordinarily sit behind the number plate it looks pretty straight to me, the slam panel has taken a hit but it seems to me that the drivers side corner has taken the brunt of the impact.

As it still drives you've got to be hopeful that the drive train isn't affected.

My cars are 'keepers' too which is why I'm always open to the idea of Cat D's as their resale value is less of a concern to me.

Re strip could well be true.

Ive had 3 cat D cars & all have given great service, its a great way of getting a cheap car.

I would hope any drive train damage is limited to the wheel / bearing / drive shaft area.

My friend has access to a jig so alignment can be checked if he goes for it,
