How much engine movement normal?

Featured Replies

How much should the engine move about when pushed?

I’m used to hardly been able to move an engine at all with my hands, but on the Fabia (VRS) the very top mount seems rather soft.

With one hand I can wobble the engine a few cm.

Is this normal on a Fabia, or is the mount worn?

ps. The bottom dog bone was new a few months back, so its not related to that.

that does not sound right,

you have the top mount for the engine by the timing belt, the gearbox mount is under the battery, then the dog bone mount underneath between the greabox and subframe

what engine, age and milage is the car?

dog bones tend to go now and again, gearbox mounts tend to give knocking going over bumps but can't remember seeing anyone say on here the engine or gearbox mounts have failed to the extent you are decribing

has the timing belt been changed recently? and the bolts not all been done up?

Its the top one near the cambelt.

The cambet was done about 6 months ago, but the movement seems to be in the mount, rather than its own mountings.

So its meant to be rock solid? (when trying to move by hand of course)

Car is a 2005 BLT with 60k.
