VRS Engine Oil - Where do you buy yours.

Featured Replies

Just a quick question - does anyone buy there oil online? Or from a local shop/dealer.

Normally I get mine from a from a friend who worked at a garage, but he no longer works there so I'm wondering where's the best (& cheapest) place to buy.

Cheers.

Look in Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys etc, they are sometimes including it in price drops to beat each other.

Even when not price fighting they are hard to beat on price, or Local Motor Factors.

Buy mine (Quantum Platinum) from Volkswagen dealer, price is competative with the online aution site after postage has been paid. Hope that you are looking at the correct spec, don't think that the supermarkets will have the correct spec/grade, but have been wrong before.

The grade required is actually there, (well in Scottish stores, not been in everyone everywhere)

from own Brand to Higher priced 'Quality' Named, pricier stuff.

Not Pound shops.

kwick fit, they throw in a filter and a monkey to get dirty......castrol edge @£40 quid you cant beat it if you factor in time and parts

Whoever's selling good oil at a low price. Ecp last time I think.

Binzie,

& now and again they like to wipe down the filter & put a finger mark on it to give the changed filter look.

'New Crush washer', why bother with that 'whats the worst that can happen? according to those 'Fast flip dancers'.

Then there is the thing that you dont know which button he pressed when he put your oil in,

they like to charge Fully Synthetic and pump some Semi.!!

Cheers guys. Might pop into the local VW dealer & see how much their oils going for.

Millers XFE-PD from a local Motor Factor in Redcar. If I can remember it was £30 + VAT the last time I bought some.

I also use Millers XFE-PD from a local A1 Motor Stores, think last time it came in at £28 INC VAT

I just get the whole lot from the dealer.

£36 for 5L Platinum oil, air filter, oil filter and sump plug + washer.

My VW local dealer has the 5L Platinum oil for about £28 so I'll pick some up from there.

On a side note, is the oil filter & air filter the same common to other VW cars? I doubt the dealer stocks Skoda parts but if I quote a car model I could get them at the same time. I guessing that the oil filter is used on various VW cars but is the air filter unique to the Skodas?

For the air filter I've got: 6Q0129620

And for the oil filter I've got: 071115562C

Cheers

Air filter and oil filter are the same for the 1.9 TDI on the Polo too.

Cool.

@ Softscoop:

Was £36 all in (inc VAT)? If so, that was a very good price!!

As far as I remember, yes it was

-My local Skoda dealer charged £18 for 5L of PD Platinum last week :)

i know they are shhheeet but i been nausing the boss there for ages, and they know i check as i do it there

when i bought my furby in march they diagnosed faulty steering elbow and oil leak. and showed me so i could get my garage to sort it

very happy, but took a while to trust the half witts

My local TPS dealer sells VW507 5litres - £30 (it's Gold, think Quantum?), that's what I use.

Also Asda's often sells Castrol Edge 507 (4litres) for about £30, which is way cheaper than Halfords.

Failing that, have a look on Opie Oils website, often do good discounted offers, and often give member discounts too.
