Any Idea of cost?

Featured Replies

I bought a 2006 51k vRS from a main dealer(not Skoda. Jct600) 2 weeks ago.

on the test drive I tested the Air con & found it was running hot.

I pointed this out to the sales manager who said they would sort it out.

I collected the car a week later & before driving away I tested the air con & it was still hot.

I got the manger out who couldnt understand why it still wasnt working, so he booked the car in the next day for a full air con service.

They collected the car from my workplace & returned it later that day saying they couldn’t find a fault & they would need to rebook it in for 4 days this week.

so no bother they gave me a courtesy car and off I went,

They just called me to say they had to send the car to a Skoda main dealer to get the work done (D M Keith in Bradford)

So it’s having a New air con compressor fitted & a new drivers air bag as that was also showing on a fault code.

This is all covered by my warranty :whew:

But I was just after some Idea of how much all thiswould have cost if I was paying?

Probably over a grand for all that at dealer prices, air con compressor alone is around £600 iirc.

I had a 56 plate Octy vRS, when I drove it home from the dealership I noticed the AC was running hot.

It went back for a "re-gassing" which of course didn't fix the issue so it went back a second time for a new compressor (Oh such a familiar story) :)

I was told that the part alone is around £800 and then it takes 2 people about 2hrs to do all the work (two man job apparently) so a lot of labour on top.

Of course that isn't what the dealership is losing, it's just what it would cost an out of warranty person.

ouch thats gota hurt ! :whew:

Which is probably why someone traded it in - cheaper to upgrade than fix the aircon!

ye true.

Its a 1 owner from new car with full skoda history.

The bloke spent £1875 on his last service & mot (invoice is in with the history) he probably couldnt face another £1k bill.

Yes the part is 545 alone( AC compressor) and fitted is £759 ! I know 3 weeks ago I had a new one fitted from D m keith .Out of warranty and paid £445 for it fitted and air con service. Even at a AC specialist fitted is £500 . When I met you that is where my car was

Heck!

Did it take much to get goodwill out of them?

I was quoted a "ballpark" £1200 on my mk1. After the paramedics left, and some umming and ahhing, it was agreed I would scource the A/C pump. £200 for that from that well known parts supplier. The garage (an ex VW farnchise) found the clutch was ok, so a bit of spannering, a quick recharge and about £350 all in - cold as you like.

It was a genuine standen (it said on the box!) BTW.

I originally had just an aircon service, then they said aircon not working( er thats why its in) then there was a problem with my ecu, and could I authorise diagnostics, after 3 days( they were waiting on Milton Kenyes ) I went down with spare sett of keys ( with Simbo)to scan.No fault codes, temp gauges working fine. So I went into reception and asked what exactly is wrong with my ECU as I have no codes showing? They said it is not coming up as your car, I said if I want to alter the comfort coding I will, there is no problem with my ecu. They wanted £245 to take it away, I explained it took us mere mortals 5 minutes to diagnose the fault, no way am I paying for two hours diagnostics, I will pay the aircon service. He said you have to pay in full, I said you can keep the keys and drove off. I then rang Angus Keith the big boss, ( Nice guy )and explained all , car full service and bought off you, there is not a more cared for M2 in the country, and it has only done 41000 miles, I said if a washer repair man came to your house, and all they did was put a new belt on and changed a plug,(but it still did not work) would you pay them 245. He could see my Rational. We had a long chat 25 mins and I said I am prepared to pay towards the cost of a new compressor. He then got Lee, in service( Manager ) to ring me, he was going to ask Skoda UK for contribution, he said it was not likely as I had already had a new ABS pump out of warranty, I paid 675 towards that, but I explained, Skoda UK should foot the bill full stop for that vw and Audi do. Anyway 3 weeks down the line they ask for my original reg number, even though was bought new off them. I told them I could get it done at an independent for 500. I would pay them the aircon service only . So they get back later that day and say if they had done an aircon service and new pump it would be £759 , but goodwill from Skoda and Angus brought it down to £445 in total, and forget about diagnostics. So I said OK, it was fitted( icy cold now) and then I rang Angus to thank him, he asked , so was it the compressor then , I said yes, he said, we will have to have you diagnosing faults on our cars then :giggle:

Had a few calls from the dealer today saying the warranty company is asking to talk to me regarding the claim & when the air con actually stopped working,

while talking to them they told me the claim for the air con was £1080 & the airbag claim was £950.

£2030 all in :whew:

D M Keith had in 5 days & its still gotta go back in now the claim has been agreed.

another few days driving a 1.3 Mazda 2
