Front Strut Top mount/top mount bearings

Featured Replies

I've got rrp prices of 22.70 each for top mounts and 12.46 each for top mount bearings and was wondering if people would only change the bearing or change the top mount itself.

Does the top mount have a habit of failing, or is it just the bearing itself that's the problem.

I'll be replacing all the bolts anyway.

I *think* it was just be bearings that were wrecked on mine but for the sake of twenty odd quid I'd just replace the lot.

Hi Nick,

It's that price each so would be £50. Doesn't seem much, but when on a budget, i'd rather only change them if they fail.

The bearings would get changed without question obviously.

mine were around £40 for a pair of top mounts from TPS,it may be cheaper than usual because i had my mechanic order them for me

Hmmm, on my golf, I used to change the mount if it was all off anyway. Just saves the hassle of doing it again if it does fail, but that was only cos I did all my own work and couldn't be @rsed to do the job twice potentially. Having said that, you could pretty much see what condition they were in on a MkII golf from just looking in the engine bay. Not sure what the score is on an octy as i've never looked.

I'll probably get a pair of mounts and bearings for the front as the cost of not doing them and then having to do them is much higher than just doing it in the first place.

Wondering if I can find some good quality after market items such as febi for a lot less than OEM prices.

It was such a relief to get rid of the horrible random knocking, groaning noises when I took my old ones off. I don't have VAG top mounts any more - my Air Lift struts have their own.

My oil lift, cheap drop sprung ones allow the car to rise and fall 4-5 times before coming to rest, meaning a ride that ressembles £1.50p effort at blackpool. I never need to go to the shows - just down the blairgowrie high street. Its like im at the carnival everyday, and mine uses VAG s t mounts.

Puts air lift to shame in my opinion :giggle:
