This is why I didn't get one. I spoke to a guy in orange who had one brought back because the heat damaged the screen.

No help I know but I'd be contacting where the bought it.

You should have a Playbook.

I'm on the 75th re-charge since April and the back casing now gets quite toasty on discharge.

Should check out my s2 quite often gets to 59! Only on charge and I'm using it at the same time lol

Never checked my One X temperature, where is it? :giggle:

Though I just found this from HTC.

If the phone is in normal use without playing games or calling for long time, the temperature should be around 37°C or 38°C. But if you use your phone to play games or surfing internet for a long time, it will be normal that the temperature rises to around 55°C.“, official statement from HTC.

That's one way of "solving" a glaring problem ;)

Suspect any device with a quad core 1.5ghz processor and associated battery will generate heat.

Just installed a widget, mine sits at 32 degrees in normal usage. Will see how it goes throughout the day.

Most dual and quad core phones get hot. As with laptops, some get hotter than others simply due to the design and closeness of other heat producing components.

My desire and now sensation xe get warm, but really hot when using 3g data to browse the web on orange when I switch from tmobile signal. Then the battery also drops like a brick. It ONLY gets hot thinking about it when using Orange.

Are you on orange? When does it get warm? (as in what are you doing at the time)

Yes I'm with orenge and its if I do anything with it.

With the Playbook, I suspect that its a slight increase in battery resistance with age + the normal high curreng drain that priduces the heat.

The "Battery Guru" app shows battery voltage dropping with successive voltages over time and the "Battery Health" indicator (Whatever ratio that us) dropping from the high 98% when I first started using it to 90% now and that's after 90 re-charges since April (Just looked the actual recird up and surprised myself).

Doesn't bode well for the longevity if batteries in the new lightweight electric cars ?

Turn off network data.Does it still get as hot on just WiFi or playing games?

This article, from the hobby modelling world who are large users of Li-Po batteries, confirms that internal resistance of Li-Po batteries goes up with use and age of the battery and with it the heating effect on discharge.:-

http://www.rchelicop...-batteries.html

The writer advises that you should stop using a Li-Po battery if the voltage drops below 3.0v and if the charge level is below 20%, otherwise you damage the battery. (Presumably the charge holding capacity reduces) and/or make it age quicker.

So there may be a knock-on effect from using power hungry multi-core processors in current generation of phones, in that there's more likelihood that the high drain rate on the battery will damage it.

On the Playbook, the default battery alarm is set @ 10% of total battery capacity ! !

The issue still continues, HTC repair center said I should turn WiFi off and going the manage apps and kill all back ground running apps and this should stop the phone from getting hot which it doesn't so my only option is to get it repaired under warrenty. The women from phones for you (the seller of the phone) said the heat is excessive and should be like it.

Think it's fine just used as sat nav for an hour and went to 55 degrees.

Be surprised to see Li-Po cells in a phone.

Mine only get hot when using the sat nav, but just had to get a replacement as the wifi stopped, problem with the internal antenna breaking with the first batch of phones.

mine does get hot too when using it loads. My screen every now and then used to freeze up when it got hot and i have to turn off screen and on again to make it work. I did notice this only happened when i have a silicone case on my phone. When i took this off and did the same things and phone was ok, still got warm though. I looked at the HTC website and saw that a genuine case from them is full of holes, may take a hole punch to my cheapy ebay case!
