Ayrton Senna pictures, its 11 years ago tomorrow

11 years!!!

this was a tragic thing that happened and i can't belive its been so long!

one of the greatest drivers ever in my opinion

THE greatest racing driver...beats even Fangio.

Indeed he was the greatest driver ever. If he was still alive, Schumacher would not be a 7 times world champion. It would be Senna that had at least 7.

I was shocked to my core watching it live. When he hit, you just knew.

Out of everything I read about it after, the legal stuff gave the greatest insight into the injury. It was suppose to be one of the suspension struts on the front wheels actually penetrated his helmet and killed him. Thats why one of the williams designers was up in court on various manslaugter charges (later all dropped.) but I know there are lots of theories, so people might disagree with what I have posted.

He died in an horrific accident (which I also saw live..and immediately knew he wasnt coming out of it alive), but that is what it was ..an accident. For the Italians to take Williams to court was terrible.

Problem since that though is that cars are much safer for all. Now that in itself isnt a problem, the problem is that motor racing is in itself a very dangerous sport and the more safety is put in the more sanitised the sport becomes.

... and Steering wheel failure which caused the crash. I suppose depending on what types on modifications were made to the wheel would justify legal actions , was it true it was welded to change the length ?

Theres no doubt about it Senna was a legend, which probably wasn't really appreciated in his day (I know I didn't at the time unfortunately but I do now)and in a way thats what kinda annoys me about people slagging Schumacher. People don't really appreciate how good he is, and unfortunately it'll only be when he's gone that I think they will.

Btw I don't mean to offend anyone, its just my opinion :)

I have recently bought all the F1 videos from 87-96 to watch the master at work :D Now I need to find time to watch them.

Some video clips at the bottom of this page

Isn't it amazing how well recognised one helmet is, I doubt I could recognise any other drivers helmet like that.

Yes, 1st May will always be in my memory. A legend and great talent that's sorely missed.

Can't believe it's been 11 years either.

Steve

Let us not foget Roland Ratzenberger, who died the day before, if my memory is correct.

Correct Mike and another horrific accident. Greatly overshadowed by the following days loss.

Whilst I hear what you say about Schuey (and I also dont think he's that good in comparison), the one thing Schuey doesnt have is geat competition. Senna had Prost, Lauda, and Mansell all three extremely good racers and more than capable of beating Senna.

So the question you have to ask yourself is "Would Schuey have won all his titles if he were up against those three?"

I think the answer is probably not.

Hear hear, was checking the thread to see if anyone mentioned that fact. Glad they did.

Let us not forget that this man stopped a damned good BRITISH driver proving his potential by having him thrown off the Lotus team when he joined. Whom I hear you ask? One Johnny Dumfries. Great driver, yes, in my opinion (to which I am entitled) not a very nice man!!

Theres no way he would have, I wouldn't argue with that. But I do think that he would have been well able to mix it with them and win some titles. Senna racked up 3 titles, but it was very competitive back then. Schuey is talented and I think he gets a lot of flack cos the rest of the grid just can't match him. If there was one or two drivers who really could have put it up to him over the last couple of years then he probably wouldn't get as much flack as he does.

Btw Sorry I forgot to mention Roland Ratzenberger RIP, I had been looking for Senna pics when one of the guys brought it to my attention that it was the anniversary. I have a 1988 BTCC video with him at the wheel of an M3. Plenty of black smoke with turbos going bang.

Why did he have him thrown off ?

Why did he have him thrown off ?

When approached by Lotus, he said he would sign for them as long as johnny Dumfries didn't! Simple as that. Sad but true. :thumbdwn:

That sounds like bad form alright. I wonder why he pulled a stunt like that ?
