I think i have come to that horrible fork in the road

Featured Replies

so my vrs has been in my ownership for three years...it now owes me nothing...no finance or anything at all

I love the little smokey b@st@rd but i want to move up in terms of power....

question is...have i missed the boat on this one...my car has been well looked after but has done 134,000 miles. Is it to late to play with turbos and clutches and all that jazz...is that engine just to old?

i have a 155k fabia PD100 not done turbos and all that but remapped spent a lot on it and is still running fine and on original turbo! :p there is loads out there that have done loads of miles and had upgraded turbos and all that put on them. the PD engines are brilliant and reliable engines if you love the car might as well start playing with it! :)

No. Im running 200+ BHP and mine has done 164,000 miles. Just run in!

That said, think carefully what else you could get for the money it`d cost to mod it before ploughing cash into it, because you`ll not get much back once you do.

yeah maybe your right...i mean i dont see what is worth paying out for next as a decent step up anyway when this car on my drive is free to drive (except usual running costs)

yeah thats very true...but say i spent three grand on it...what could i buy as a decent car for 3-4 grand...

iv already got bilstein suspension and all the bushes done so all i was thinking of going for was the 312mm set up...clutch intercooler and turbo prehaps

was literally just reading through your topic about your car and was going to post a link as an example on here! haha

if you have already done them bits and you (like me) love your car too much to get rid then its worth it to spend the money on it just remember that you wont get the money back when it comes to selling

or if you could bare to get rid of the fabia maybe go for a octavia vrs 4k should get a decent old shape one or add a bit more and get a new shape (pre facelift) one

Depends what your power goal is. Also, what your mileage vs MPG vs ££££s is going to look like.

In terms of what can be done with other cars... Have a look for "Harvey's" (Wife's) Vectra and Darkside's Jetta.

The Vec is elsewhere on the net too... ISTR tdisport or TDOC... The Jetta is also well publicised.

Apart from diesels, maybe look at Mazda 3 MPS and/or Focus ST. Mileage will suffer as will mid-range driveability if you start hooking bigger turbos on them... The perils of driving a car with a throttle plate in the inlet tract.

Depends what your after I guess. Personally i`d be after a nice 330d for that money. Semi economical & will probably show a hybrid Fabia a clean pair of heels once mapped.

Chocolate auto boxes are a problem on 330ds, and that's without a map adding further grief... beautiful cars though. Solidly refuse to do less than 40mpg and still sound like a beastly straight six!

Everyone knows autos are for the lazy! ;) I think I read they're running more torque than the auto box supports as standard anyway! (Manuals are fine.)

I'm getting around 50ish MPG from mine too driven carefully, and it handles better than anything VAG I've owned. :)
