A few little questions...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just bought myself an 06 plate vRS and seems to be great (although only had it 1 day so far!)

Just a couple of little 2 second questions for you.

1. Rear foglights - only seem to have one on the drivers side - am I supposed to have 2 or is it just the one?

2. Between the speedo and rev counter I have what looks like a screen, albeit one that doesn't seem to do anything. Is this correct or am I meant to have some form of information on this?

I'm sure there will be a few more questions as the ownership progresses!

Cheers,

Adam (Maverick)

The other can be enabled by using a VCDS.

Not on a Fabia it can't

There is a screen available, which is called Maxidot.

Was only on cars originally specified with the satnav from the factory (£1800 option, so it's a bit rare to say the least). It's also pretty much impossible to retrofit as several members have tried.

Without, you just get the warning lights.

With it, you get nice messages saying fill up washer fluid, shows which door is open, it also shows the sat nav instructions and radio station info :)

Oops, I thought it was a global problem with most Skoda's. So, needs re-wiring then?

I've checked the rear lights before and while there are the holders it's missing a lead so a re-wire would be required.

Excellent, thought I was just going mad...

I'll add to this rather than starting a new thread, where can I get the blanking plates for the roofbar mounting points? Is this a main dealer thing?

And I tried fitting my old cd player, but it loses memory when I turn ignition off, do I have to swap wires somewhere?

Cheers,

Adam

Blanking plates will be available from the dealer for a few quid.

Yeah you'll need to swap over the permanent and switched 12v feeds.

Some CD players come with inline bullet connectors to allow you to do this.

As said - there's usually two feeds, one from ignition switch and one a permanant feed.

Rear fogs- posts on here about thatb, possibly you may have to fit a connector to the passenger side one, else it'll have to be wired in.

The bulb is a twin filament for the passenger side already, so I'll see what I can do.

In my feeble attempts at fitting the stereo, I may have tripped a fuse as the standard stereo won't now turn on... Any ideas where I should be looking? Despite not being young any more, I don't know my way around a skoda yet haha.

And I will be getting a Haynes "book of lies"... Anyone suggest a better workshop guide? Porters?

The fuse panel is on the right hand side of the dash.

Open the drivers door, and pop the panel cover off.

I would never have found that haha.

Thank you!

The reason why there is only one rear foglight is to prevent confusion with the brake lights i.e. one bright rear light is a foglight, two bright rear lights are brake lights.

Hope this helps.

It also has a third brake light high level... I know this only became mandatory recently though...

My old mk1 punto had twin fogs...

Cheers, found it, completely destroyed. Replaced and the standard stereo works again. Now to try replacing it... Without too much butchery of wiring...

Another one...

Dad noticed a smell of diesel this morning. I can't see any sign on the floor under the car (and it is raining)... Is it normal to get a bit of vapour in the morning as the outside temp warms up or do I have an issue?
