STEERING FLUID AND BRAKE RESERVOIR FILTER

Featured Replies

Well I’ve been changing the brake fluid on the Roomster , and had to take out battery and tray, also air filter assembly to get at the clutch bleed nipple.(fluid was really dirty from clutch nipple this had clearly never been changed)

And what did I find under the battery tray, the steering fluid reservoir. Wondered where it was located, now I know! The fluid level was just over the nipple on the cap dip stick. I imagine the depth of fluid scale is the narrow part of the stick up from the end nipple, in which case it’s a bit on the low side.

Will any steering fluid do?

Also I found getting the filter out of the brake fluid reservoir a real pain , and only achieved it by brute force and ignorance. Is there a trick to its removal?

Many thanks.

Well searching online it seems the advice regarding power steering fluid is not to use anything but GREEN VW SPEC G002000.or G004000M2 In my case I don’t think its urgent so will top up some time in the future. No leaks that I can see.

Just like to see the fluid at least half way up the marker on the power steering dipstick.

How to correctly check the pAS fluid level..........park car on level ground with wheels straight ahead.......car must not have been used for 2hrs (i leave mine overnight) then remove cap and wipe on clean rag the built in dipstick.........then refit cap tight then unscrew and the level of the fluid should just cover the end bobble. If the car has been used recently then the fluid should be 1/4 way up the narrower part.......best to do it cold tho as more accurate!

AS for the build in strainer/filter on the top of the brake res......I just leave mine and use a wadge of paper towels to absorb/clean any dirt........gave up trying to remove it!!!

oh and only VW PAS fluid will do ..........and yes even the dealerships etc forget to to do the clutch nipple........my car is easy to find both items, but my mate has the old 1.4 8v mpi engine which uses the vrs battery box......which then really hides both the PAS fluid and the clutch blead nipple..
