4x4 trye changes

Featured Replies

Are there any restrictions when replacing tyres on the Suberb 4x4 models ?

I understand that soem 4x4 systems expect 2 new tyres at on the same axle at one time and other new tyres on all axles at the same time.

Curious

I never had no problems with replacing the front tyres a few months back, the garage never mentioned anything about requiring the rears to be changed. They still had plenty of life n them.

I've also heard the tyre story from someone that owned an Audi a while back.

It's not a permanent 4x4 setup so no problem.

From a steering, braking stability point of view it's best to change both tyres at one end at the same time.

Cheers

The best thing is to rotate the tyres front to back so that they wear evenly and then change them all at once. At the very least, tyres should be replaced in pairs on all cars. Replacing just one will mean that the car will be unbalanced when driving through standing water and during hard braking.

On the subject of 4x4, when I got my fronts changed recently I had the tracking done at the same time. The garage also told me the tracking was out on the rear, I've never had a 4x4 car before so was this legitimate or a garage scam to get more money?

I never had the rear tracking completed, if it's legitimate I will get it done when I have the rears changed next.

Nothing to do with 4x4, more to do with having independent suspension all round. As such you can have alignment issues on all four wheels with full independent suspension.

Thanks

Steve
