SSD

Hi folks,

Looking at sticking a SSD in my Early 2012 MBP, purely upgrading because I want to... No i'm not going to use it to it's full potential blah blah blah.

Anyway, after doing a small amount of research it seems like this SSD : http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-256gb-830-series-sata-6gb-s-2-5--ssd-basic-kit-819P.html?src=2 gets a pretty decent review. I was wondering if any of you guys/gals have experience of it?

Thanks

Not used one, but couldn't help thinking "Black-tone, brushed metal design" was a bit pointless on a internal device

I know lol, I love it how this is listed under 'Features' :giggle: It's utterly pointless!

Samsung are good as are crucial.

I have 2 crucial 128gb at home and have Samsungs at work.

We now have over 400 SSD's running on our networks at work. Many are Crucial but we have some Samsung. The speeds we have vary slightly but they are all very very fast compared to normal HD's. Failure rate has been non existent after many have been running for over two years. Normal HD's continue to fail in the normal way, so we are gradually continuing to upgrade each machine as it happens. We don't have any over 128GB's on desktop machines as the big sizes were prohibitively expensive a couple of years ago and for us reliability was not proven. It is now!

This is the one Apple are using in their new Retina MacBook Pro's. Dabs are selling the consumer version. In the rMBP's they are very quick.

PS Samsung seem to have a very good reputation for reliability with their SSD's.

I don't know if you've bought already this SSD but Samsung has an interesting offer and there is £20 cashback on this 256GB SSD http://www.samsung.com/uk/student/product-ssd.html .

I bought this SSD for £145 from Novatech and minus £20 cashback - it's a bargain :giggle:

Keep an eye on UKhotdeals.com, there seem to be deals on SSDs posted every day.

I've not got an SSD but I suspect that the majority come from the same factories and the difference between them are going to be minimal.

Look for a good deal with a warranty and get that one.#

i.e. 128Gb for £50

This SSD is rather avarage in terms of performance thus the price
