Van Insurance

Featured Replies

Hi

Been thinking of buying a VW Transporter panel van then having a few basic conversions to bring it up to spec for use as a family bus, weekend camper and general load lugger etc.

Mate said I should look at the insurance side of things first and naively I thought with 9 year protected NCD and good driving history I thought I'd be OK.

What a shock - looked at 1.9TDi 102PS on an 11 plate - back to 0 years NCD and the cheapest I could find via one of the top search sites was a tad over £1k!

Anyone any suggestions re insurance?

A woman at work has found the same thing, Basic Fiat Doblo 1.6d Maxi, 800 quid!

I insure my Berlingo van with Budget van insurance, all done online and found it far cheaper than my broker. Might be worth a try :)

I've been on a trade policy for the last five years, but the premiums spiraling out of control now.

You try getting out of it though.

Hindsight's a great thing.

Didn't actually realise or indeed warned at the time, that reverting back to a 'normal' policy would prove to be equally expensive initially, as your NCB goes out the window, and you have to start from scratch all over again.

Rang up to get an individual quote for my Corsa Combo 1.7............£950! :o

My dad has a LDV maxus van with a limited milege policy and pays 300 quid a year, to put me on it would it upto 760 quid for year.

I got a couple of quotes for a vauxhall combo van for me to run about in and it was more than i pay on my modified vrs.

Because certain groups with multiple vans and cars have been abusing it.

I know they stopped the windscreen cover for that very reason.

Add the compulsary road fund licence rip off to the insurance, and that's one of the reasons I'm probably going back to an estate car for my job.

I'll have to bite the bullet for the first couple of years. :(

You would be suprised how many firms use estates rather than vans, we used to get a fleet of red volvo v40's in at work from an electrical firm and they were all rammed with gear everytime they come in.

We asked why they run cars rather than vans and was told it was all down to cost as vans were to expensive to run

Be the opposite for most companies, as their cover all insurance would cover any vehicle (along with liability, buildings, loss of earnings etc), and they're cheaper to buy & operate than a car.

Certainly my employer has a single policy which covers any company driver for any company vehicle be that car, van or hire vehicle as long as they have a license for the specific class and the use is specifically for company business only.

I looked at getting insurance on a SWB transit last year and it was about £300/yr which is about the same as my VRS, I can't remember the insuror but I found it through compare the market. Afaik Direct Line also do van insurance.

Hi,

Feel free to give us a try if you like. We've got special schemes that cater for VW commercials. We also have no issue with modifications / conversions. If you wanted to PM me your details I would be more than happy to get one of our quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

I'm with Gladiator on my Kangoo 1.5DCI.

About 300 a year TPFT with cover for trade use.

I pay for a separate insurance policy for my tools and

equipment so they are covered either at home, on whatever job I'm on

or in the van. If the van gets broken into I'd just go to a breakers and

buy used parts to repair any damage caused by a break in. Better that

than put it through the insurance, certainly works out cheaper in the long

run. Gladiator are part of Admiral insurance by the way.

(I also insure both of my cars with Admiral so

maybe that's why it's so cheap??)
