Service Interval

Featured Replies

My 1.9tdi has done about 52k and its now saying i need a service in 700 miles or 350odd days. Ami right in thinking it needs a service every 20k miles (had one at 40k) and that this warning is set to kilometers and not miles?

Thanks

If it is on variable servicing the max interval between services is 18,600 miles (I think), or 2 years, whichever comes first

BUT

it monitors the oil quality, so if you do a lot of shorter journeys it will flag up a service earlier than that.

My service intervals appears to have dropped from around 20,000 miles to a fairly consistent 5,000 miles, this is a bit of a serious reduction - (still says 180 odd days though) any ideas why the interval has dropped so much , please ?

I don't know how you got to 20,000 miles for the service interval, as that is beyond the mileage limit set for variable servicing.

If it is on variable servicing and it has been reset correctly and then tells you it needs servicing after 5000 miles something is seriously amiss. Perhpas the sensor for the oil quality is faulty?

Probably worth getting the car scanned for fault codes?

Fixed servicing is 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever you reach first.

You are at 180 days (approx.6 months) and 5,000 miles (half the 10,000 mile interval).

Sounds to me as though your dealer has changed you from variable to fixed service intervals.

My vrs is set on variable, has been a little over a year and about 8000 miles since the last service(Skoda Dealer) and its telling me im due a service now, its been to the same Arnold Clark Skoda garage up here in Inverness 3 times now and its still not right, even after getting the branch principal on the phone about how incompetent they seem to be. Good Luck

Is it telling you it needs a service because it has reached the number of days elapsed?

I can't see how they can get it wrong - if you want fixed servicing use the trip reset button to reset, if you want variable use the computer.

Variable service on a diesel is up to 30k, not 18.6k. Don't know where you got that from but its clearly displayed in the service book.

That's because Arnold Clark (or someone else) has reset the OBC to fixed instead of variable servicing intervals.

Getting 8,000 miles on a variable service interval means that you are either:

1) Driving everywhere in second gear (i.e engine spends almost all of its time under heavy load),

2) The car completes very frequent but short journies (the engine is rarely if ever able to reach operating temperatures),

3) Or the dealer has changed it to fixed servicing in the hope that you won't notice and therefore have the car serviced more often.

Guess which option my money is on!?

Not on mine it isn't - most definitely 18.6K miles (which is 30K KM BTW).

Having done over 40K in the last 2 years mine has always flagged the service due for exactly 18.6K miles.

Ok how do i find out how many days until the next service, i press the trip reset button and turn the key in the ignition and it comes up and says service now, im i doing something wrong

just because you've got that it doesn't mean that's it. My mate gets 24k out of his which is 90% motorway. It tells you in the book.

Looks like it has changed since mine was manufactured, which doesn't surprise me. I stand corrected as it is now

All new Octavia and Superb models can operate on either a fixed or a variable servicing regime. On variable servicing, intervals are determined by driving styles and conditions of use. The on-board computer will indicate when a service is required which could be up to approx. 20,000 miles for petrol engines, 30,000 miles for 4 cylinder diesel and 24,000 miles for V6 diesel.

When I look at mine (a 2006MY PD140) with VCDS, the variable interval has a maximum mileage set of 18.600, and 2 years as the time interval.

Anyone who would be happy to see their car go 30,000 between oil changes should have their head tested.

Fixed interval/yearly service is no bad thing.

Its always been this since variable was introduced. I have it on my 54 reg Bora and said mates Polo GT which gets 24k intervals.

Mates said Polo GT has been on variable since new (Dec 2004) and now coming up to 150k with no problems besides a new turbo at 120k due to sticky vanes from supermarket diesel :giggle:. My Bora also on variable since new (Nov 2004) is now on 105k with no problems (touch wood!)
