Octavia VRS Booked in for injector recall, cambelt and ABS, ESP lights. Help me Cover myself.

Featured Replies

Hello, so i have my car booked in for the injector recall and going to get them to check why my variable servicing is telling me to service now when im only a year and 8000 miles in. Also getting the cambelt changed at the fixed price of £299, more on this later.

I also have 3 yellow warning lights that appeared after they 'reset' the service light last time, ABS ESP and the tyre pressure indicator light.

I dont trust this garage, Arnold Clark Inverness. It has been back several times to check the service light and they just say its been fixed even when i ask what they did. Called them the other day regarding my warning lights and her question was are they red or yellow, if they were red i would suggest you not drive it however yellow is fine we can take a look at it in 2 weeks!

So another phone call after deciding to get the cambelt changed while its in getting the recall work done i was told it would cost me £400, i said wow really, i called 2 months ago and spoke to you directly and was quoted £360, apparenly now because its a VRS its more expensive! I called Skoda customer services to find out why my local dealer isnt sticking to the national fixed pricing scheme and he told me that they might be opt out, i replied they are showing as a participating retailer on the Skoda website, half an hour later i had the service adviser calling me and telling me she had a call from Skoda and the new price is £299, robbing b*****ds.

So hats off to Skoda for saving me £100 up yours faithfully to Arnold Clark!

So this whole ordeal doesnt exactly instill confidence in this garage, considering people DO have problems following injector changes and cambelt changes. Never mind the 3 warning lights for which she told me its the red lights you want to worry about, even though my owners manual says to stop driving and take to nearest garage for the yellow lights.

So what would you suggest, a letter to the principal director explaining my lack of confidence considering the phone calls and to ensure they dont f**k my car up?

I wouldn't go near an Arnold clark garage to be honest. They are utterly hopeless , I would rather give a group of monkeys some tools and a laptop and they will do better than Arnold clark. Are you getting the water pump changed at the same time ? Also I think your servicing has been changed to fixed.

Up here in the highlands next closest dealer is Aberdeen 2 hours away, other than a VW or seat i would rather keep the service book full Skoda for several reason, ABS module to name a big one.

And thats what my thoughts were but it has been set up with variable from the factory and the last service was even ticked off as variable.

Here is a question not regarding my main post, do all laurin and klement Octavia's have there registration number start with LK, because arnold clark got my car mixed up with a L&K Octavia after they asked for my reg number, my plate is LK57

Vehicles with Registrations that start with LK have been first registered in London hence the LK prefix. My prefix for Glasgow is SB but can also be SG,SF,SC. all police cars in Glasgow unmarked or otherwise start with SF. The service may have been ticked off for variable but that doesn't mean it wasn't reset to fixed sounds to me that it's on fixed servicing .

Bring back Delmore thats all i can say, i wouldnt let arnold clark loose with a tub of plasticine let alone a car !!!

Personally i would bite the bullet and go to aberdeen, its only 2 hours and you could make a day of it !! I know the A96 is rubbish but would rather that than arnold clark.

Please don't take your car to Arnold Clark.

You just need to read the several threads on the issues a few of us have had with the injector change to know it needs someone with an ounce of ability to change them,- this rules Arnold Clark out then.

If the service light isn't reset properly (using the dealers diagnostis machine) and is instead reset using the button on the dash then the service regime resets to fixed (12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever you reach first) - hence your service light has come on at 12 months.

Another balls-up from Arnold Clark.

They tried to charge you more than the job was worth for the cambelt - another reason to avoid Arnold Clark.

They've done something to cause a load of warning lights on the dash, let you drive away in the car and then told you it is OK to drive - and you are still contemplating using Arnold Clark!?

I appreciate dealers may be thin on the ground in your neck of the woods but it would be cheaper and far less hassle (in the long run) to take a long weekend away somewhere and get it done then!

If you intend on keeping the car pay the extra £70 and have the waterpump changed at the same time as the cambelt (£369 - Skoda National Pricing).

2 hour drive to nearest non Arnold Clark and get a courtesy car I have a longer drive to my main dealers and likewise could go VW 9 miles away but choose not to (saying that its still not had its first service but as per my old Mk1 Fabia VRS). From what I have read over the years in here and silver1011's post above enforcing it with the torrent of others I would not go near an AC dealers for work!

Damn, looks like my suspicion was right and its already booked in for Tuesday.

Please note AC didnt do the last service all they did was reset the service light and i was told that it wont reset to zero and it will tell me when its due its real service.

Also the abs esp lights came on 200 miles into my holiday trip to the west coast camping not wheni drove it away but it still begs the question, what did they do to it.
