Help Car Cuts Out

Featured Replies

My Skoda Fabia 1.4 16v 100bhp Elegance has a problem, my wife was driving the car around two weeks ago approx 60mph when the revs died the oil warning light came on and then the ASR warning light came on. She rolled the car to a stop then turned the ignition off and left it for a short while, then restarted the car and drove home with no futher problems. Then Friday evening driving home it did the same thing, she had the air con on and the stereo and was on a fairly straight road doing the speed limit. Before this the car would hunt at a juction every couple of weeks and a slight hold on the accelerator would clear it. I have driven the car today Saturday 11/8/12 and its been fine at all speeds with the air con and stereo on. Any help would be great, the engine managment light has not been on at all.

See if there's a friendly VAGCOM owner in your area to read your codes for a few beer tokens. Its the intermittent problems that are the hardest to diagnose.

I have vagcom if your near Shropshire

Thanks guys Shropshire is too far, its booked in for Monday 20th so fingers crossed they sort it. Im convinced its either oil pressure, or fuel supply or air flow. So a few ideas to throw money at the car has been fine again today with the aircon on so bit confused. May be the car dont like the wife and wants me to drive as my right foot is not as heavy he he.

Not sure where you are (on a phone), but I can scan cars and am based in Aylesbury...

The Hunting revs could be EGR? mine used to do that until i cleaned the EGR pipe that goes under the throttle body.

Oil warning light will come on as it's stalled.

Faulty throttle body is quite likely. More than likely needs ECU update too.

Hi all thanks for the replys have got the fault sorted now. Its was two engine fuses one had a hairline crack so was shorting out and the other for the ABS/ASR was the wrong one so £90 later two fuses costing £6.40 were to blame. Had the throttle body reset on the diagnostics. They also found a split cv boot a near side rear spring broken at the end, an off side front lower arm bush going and the rear silencer outer skin breaking up but not leaking and passed a emissions test.

MOT is in October so CV Boot is being done today road spring next month then the bush will get done after MOT as not a fail yet. Not bad for a 11 year old car that I have done nothing to for a year.

Since owning the car I have had the followin done

New Front Alloy Wheel

EGR replaced

New Rear Door Seal

Sealed Rear Passenger Door ( Water Leak )

Steering Angle Sensor Replaced

Two New Front Tyres

New Wiper Blades Front And Rear

Rear Exhuast Oxygen Sensor

Both Anti Roll Bars Replaced

Near Side Lower Arm Bush Replaced.

Have owned the car for 1 year and 8 months now.
