Diesel Cheap In France

Featured Replies

Just been camping in France. The first week diesel was €1.35 per litre and this week it jumped to €1.41 (at the same Carrefour). Petrol was considerably more expensive- €1.55 or so. Multiply the costs by 0.8 to get the UK equivalent. Struggled to get 40mpg overall- heavily laden and two bikes across the back. 50 bottles of wine were unearthed from the general debris by SWMBO on our return.

Was not stopped by the gendarmes so the beam deflectors, breathalysers, fluorescent jackets, first aid kit and fire extinguisher will probably be lost in time for next years trip (well some of them anyway)

Keep meaning to pop over and fill up myself, but been busy. Might tie it in with a nappy trip, if those are still cheap over there.

Reluctant to spend too much on all the tat though - never bothered before but don want to push my luck. Maybe I'll get the cheap bits and sod the rest.......

I'll start researching to see where the cheapest diesel is in Europe, From memory Germany isn't the cheapest, so it might pay me to brim the mongrel, then brim again in Czech Republic. As long as the car makes it right through Deutschland on one tank. :D

Another UK Chart topper!

According to AA for July 2012 (see page 2 of report)...

So if I run the tank right down I might get (say) 55 litres but it's more likely to be 52. Saving 15p per littre that makes a saving of £7.80 per tank, but the ferry costs me up to £1 each way if I take the car so say £5 to be on te safe side and to take account of the extra fuel spent going in the first place.

On the basis that it takes me a good five hours round trip including waiting time I reckon it's not the most efficient way to save money but it's an excuse to go see how many bottles of wine fit in the boot of an octavia ;)

When we were in Portugal last month I was surprised how expensive fuel was. Super was ~€1.85/ltr

Might be because we were in Vilamoura and the place was swarming with Porsche Panameras, Ferraries etc.

I took the Nissan to Reims & back at the weekend, averaged 18 mpg on Superunleaded but it was fun :giggle:

Interesting that! I always thought Belgium was cheaper, but that PDF suggests Germany is 7 cents cheaper a litre! Could affect how I tactically tank up for the trip. Could work well as one brimmed tank is in theory roughly Devon to western side of Germany. Then another brimmed tank to Czech.

For anyone driving to Spain it's worth going via Andorra, diesel €1.11 - 88p and petrol €1.28 - £1.02

I was there in May.

Highlight was the Dodge Charger sat on the marina with the owner who couldn't park to save his life :)

you have an FL octavia so no need for beam benders

Luxembourg is the cheapest place for diesel in central europe at 1.20 euro
