Hope Skoda UK don't short change the UK on Rapid standard of optional equipment

Featured Replies

Just been looking at some of the technology on offer with the Rapid and I'm already fearful that as with Skoda's other models, Skoda UK will 'short change' us when it comes to equipment, either standard or optional, compared to our European neighbours.

  • Be nice to see ESP as standard across the range

  • HHC available if not standard at least optional across the range

  • Notice also, that Like with the Yeti, there's a Rough Road Pack for the Rapid; please could we have that for us rural inhabitants, at least across the range on options

  • Door rubbish bins and seat nets also look good standard or option items

Oh and please again for us rural types who have to live with craters for pot holes, can you for once leave the large diameter 'bling' alloys as options for those few who enjoy driving a 'bone shaker'.

mmmmmm, those Cornering fog are very clever and the bit about lighting up the corners when parking in the dark

they're on the Skoda.de website. I'm due over there ~ the 1st Sept. Already have plans to go to the dealers with SWMBO to see if they have any demo's.

I want to compare one with my Mk1 Octy as at the moment I'm thinking its the true successor to the Mk1 Octy and not a lump of lard like the Mk2 lol

ESP will be standard on all Rapid sold in the EU :)

The attached PDF makes interesting reading.

No option of xenons at all though :(

Just have to hope SUK don't get tempted to make those hard riding 16" and 17" alloys a standard feature for UK customers on mid and top spec trim levels as they have been apt to do with other models :wonder:

5.1l/100km for the 1.2 TSI? According to google that works out at 55 miles per (imperial) gallon.... seriously? from a petrol engine? Ok so I know people say "you never get the quoted consumption" from a car, but even so, it seems surprisingly good.

Petrol is very good now ;)

The Rapid does seem very efficient for a large car. I think it's quite light and the underbody panelling has been aerodynamically optimised too.

If you look at the performance figures for the HTP engine it is actually faster than the Fabia too (I know it has 5bhp more in the Rapid but still impressive)

From the dpf it appears that DAB is only an option if you spec the sat nav and as it shows two sat nav options one with and one without DAB we might not get at all in the UK. Also rear speakers are shown as optional on all trim levels, even my ambiente Octy one came with them as standard 10 years ago!

Based on those figures in the PDF linked above that's definitely the case - but the proof will be in the test drive I suppose. When I go to test drive one at my local dealer I'm going to be pretty disappointed if they insist on the test drive being 30 minutes in and around the A roads locally (The only supervised test drive I've ever done where the sales bloke took me on 'fun', windy, 60mph A roads was in an Alfa Mito!). I want to find out what the thing will be like at 70 on the motorway (or at least 60 on a dual carriageway) as much as I want to know how it handles in town, if the engine rev noise is too much then the 1.2 TSI would be a no-no for me given 80% of my daily commute is on a motorway.

Many thanks for the PDF

Looks best with the bigger wheels though Plumber! I've got 17's on my Fabia, and I don't think their much different to the 16's to be honest. I don't understand why SUK seem to do their own specs, when the CZ have a great range of trim levels.

You'd have a lot more to play with in the options, from bare minimum for the people who just want to use it as a tool, to the top of the range ones for people who want something a little more special. :)

Wont the 1.2 TSI be a 6speed?

55mpg !!!!!! I think ALL the motor manufacturers hire comedians to write up the fuel consumption figures, to see who can get the most laughs from the claims.

It is about time they all started providing evidence of these figures in the real world & showing us mere mortal drivers how they do it.

The 77 kW version will be, the 63 kW version will be 5 speed according to that document.

To be fair, my old 1.4 MPI Fabia gives me pretty much bang on what the official book figures say I should get (42 ish mpg on my commute, give or take depending on summer/winter, 50+ mpg on a long motorway run), as did my 10 year old Ford Fiesta that I had before it.

That doesn't mean to say I'd expect to get 55 out of a Rapid mind you, but even so, it'll be interesting to find out just what it CAN do.

Agree that some cars/vehicles do look better with larger alloys/low profile tyres. However from a practical point of view, there less than suitable for the roads and weather conditions round here.

Have two Fabia Mk II's in the household, one on the standard 16" set-up the other the 15", looks and handling the Elegance wins, ride comfort then it's our base model; can even get all season tyres for it, saving having to get a set of winters as we have for the other one.

Likewise our first Yeti rode poorly with 17" rims and low profile tyres on the local roads. With the second, managed to pursued Skoda Auto to fit CZ spec 16" alloys and tyres during factory build, overriding Skoda UK's flat refusal to help in my request.

Therefore it would be nice to at least have the option of practicality or looks, rather than just having looks and having to fight for practicality.

Regards,

TP

Thats really good of Skoda Auto ove riding the Skoda UK ordering system! It's no skin off their nose really...

When I test drove the fiesta st a couple of months after It came out the supervised test was on a ^private^ windy road that the guy said I could safely do 90 down. Wondered why he went quiet until my m8 who was in the back seat said I was doing 120 and the guy went white lol

Good work lol

I test drove the new style Fiesta as well, and the one I was in had a solid bit of plastic on the outside of the central console leaving me with nowhere to rest my foot to the left of the clutch, and then when changing gear my foot was continually catching the thing as the pedal was too close to it .... after only 20 minutes it was driving me mental, so I immediately ruled out having one of them!

Well being having a look at tyre options on mytyres for the Rapid stated sizes;

Practicality wise the 15" 195/55 (as on the Fabia) is as good as it gets, plenty of choice including all season tyres :)

16" 215/45 appears to have the least choice and mainly H or V rated summer tyres (only just over one page).

17" 215/40 good choice but again mainly summer V or W rated tyres.

So here's hoping SUK leave the tyre list alone, as stated in that press leaflet above but somehow I feel they will get that irresistible itch to go for standard 16" on at least the Elegance and completely drop any chance of those nice practical 15" rims for UK customers :(

The parking ticket holder lives on I see.

Sometimes it's the little things you appreciate.

So if I read the PDF right, if you want the 1.4TSI 122, you must have it in DSG. No manual option?

It that's the case, looks like no Rapid for me.

So what's wrong with DSG? I love it.

+1 (or 2 if you count how many DSG cars I have)
