Rocker gasket

Featured Replies

Hi all i have a scoda fabia 1.4 16v with a bit of a oil leak turns out I need a new rocker gasket got quoted £105 for just gasket and £225 with new pullys is this reasonable

Bit steep imo. Unless it was a dealer, they'd get a pattern gasket, and thats about £15 from ECP. Even if it was a dealer, it wouldn't be much more than that. Its a pretty simple DIY job tbh, so why don't you try it yourself? Why do you need new pulleys for? Never known them to actually require doing, unless your uprating them.

mechanic says needed to take timing belt off and pullys never been changed

Mechanic is full of ****!

Timing belt will only need to come off if your changing the pulleys, not the rocker gasket. There is absolutely no need to change the pulleys unless they have been damaged in some way (which is v unlikely). They are not a service item, therefore do not need to be changed.

On a 1,4 16v the camshaft is held in the cam cover so yes the timing belt does have to come off. And the cam carrier is sealed to the head with sealer not a gasket.
