DS 2500 pads.

Featured Replies

Hello,im process of buying the parts to upgrade my brakes to 312mm discs.Does anybody know where to find the cheapest Ferrodo DS2500 front pads please.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Craig.

Hi Craig. Can I ask why you have chosen DS2500's?

I chose Mintex M1144's over the DS's as Mintex work very well from cold and the DS need alot of heat - track day sort of heat to work at their best

Might be cheaper someplace else,

but then a quick google will tell you if that is the case.

What you do get (just up the road from you, but the order comes direct from the supplier)

is good customer service here. Choice of parts and people with lots of knowledge.

& in the long run you will save money.

As you often will by getting when you get to know your Local Motor Factor.

You can take in parts and be sure you are recieving what you exactly want or need, rather than waiting for the post or a courier.

JMO,

DS2500 are not great for normal Daily Drive due to being pretty cr4p for stopping quickly in an emergency situation when cold,

which is what they are for much of a commute.

I have DS2500 all round and don't have any issues whatsoever.

I've had these pads on mine for approx 12 months, so I've experienced them through the winter months.

I've had these pads on previous cars including my Focus ST which was 290bhp. The braking was superb. All my previous cars, I've used to commute 200 miles a week, so I can't fault them at all.

Motorsportworld is your best bet for getting them cheap.

same here, I've got DS2500s in my Ibiza and have no problems slowing down or stopping however long the journey. same in my brother's mk1 Octavia

I`v got a mate running ds2500`s in his fabia, its his daily and has no issues stopping even when they are cold, best pads his ever used he reckons.

It is pretty obvious that good working and maintained brakes and certainly upgraded brakes should not have a problem stopping you.

They need to get your car through a MOT & be safe.

I was getting at, they are nothing special when starting off & cold discs and pads.

Not winter cold, just leaving home cold..

Something far wrong if they could not stop a car when they are fitted.

Just expensive pads that work no better than standard pads when stone cold.

Sometimes if you test them they actually work no better than standard pads on some vehicles even with bigger discs or upgraded calipers.

Not slagging them, they have there place and do there job.

An expensive job, but necessary or a good option for some.

There are as good & less costly, or more costly.

Horses for coarses really.

If you want performance pads & the OP does, then thats great.

i seem to remember a while back, someone said they were'nt legal for the road??

You are correct. On the box it states 'Track day use only' this is probably due to poor braking when cold (as described above). A while ago it was pointed out that the pads don't conform to 'regulation 90' standards so technically are not road legal.

However, as mentioned in a recent thread, a MOT tester will not strip your brakes looking for what pads you use, they only test them for braking performance.

There are pads designed for trackdays (eg Yellowstuff) that do work from cold and are perfectly road legal.

That comment is mis-leading. The reason they don't conform to Regulation 90 is NOT due to cold braking performance.

My reason for wanting these pads/brakes is basically to have the best brakes i can have.I am no boy racer (44) but i do like to have a bit of fun with the car when im in it myself. I was thinking of upgrading my brakes to 312`s anyway but a wee heart in the mouth moment when i had to stop quick on a downhill slip road fully loaded with other half, kids, pram, shopping etc has "encouraged" me to get my brakes upgraded sooner rather than later. Now before anyone jumps on their keyboard to tell me my brakes are bound to offer significantly less braking in the above situation.....yes i know, but even one up i sometimes feel the brakes are a bit weedy when pushed. So many people on this forum and others, claim that the 312 brake upgrade is the best thing they have done to their fabia. I have read reports of how good/bad the ds2500 pads are on various forums, honda, ford, alfa etc and the overwhelming verdict from users is that these are the best pads they have ever used bar none."If you can afford them, get them" with the vast majority claiming that these pads stop perfectly from cold. I believe, though dont quote me on this, that Ferrodo themselves claim that they stop well from cold. Having said all the above if anyone has experience of cheaper pads that are as good/virtually as good i would be very interested to hear. Just as a point of interest, another opinion iv read over and over again (with a few exceptions it has to be said) on every forum discussing brake pads is "stay away from ebc pads as they are s***e" !! and best avoided. Fair comment ???

I believe the reason ds2500 dont conform to reg 90 is that their working temp range is out with that stated in the regulation. Again dont quote me on that im just repeating what iv read elsewhere.

Since the importance to you is your children's safety & the best brakes you can afford for the road,

I would speak to Colin @

http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk

Tell him your needs, your discs and calipers & he will suggest or recommend to you the best Stopping Pads for your needs, which i imagine will be providing good stopping in all weather conditions including wet conditions.

These pads will possibly not be the most long lasting, & may need changed more often. (i doubt it tho unless you drive on your brakes all the time.)

My suggestion and opinion is that the DS2500 are probably not the best for the use you have described.

Easy enough to put the car on a Brake Tester once your pads are on and check the efficiency & stopping performance

& then on the road in combination with your tyres that are fitted.

I would not believe everything you read on forums, & others experiences.

Or there mates, or mates of mates that knew a man that said he had this or that fitted.

**Include my posts in that.**

My safety & my nearest & dearests is my responsibility and not some faceless person posting on a forum or forums.

I do trust the likes of Colin who has peoples safety at heart.

& has the real knowledge & experience of products in the real world..

They will not sell you something because it is the most expensive or the product they are pushing.

They will advise, they want you back as a customer .

If you have the best stopping brakes there are and need to do an emergency stop or with a loaded vehicle have to go heavy on the stopping.

You still need the ABS to work or you stopping progressively.modulating etc

Locked brakes mean no traction and your tyres are sliding you down that slip road anyway.

(no traction is meaning no braking action!)

It is a holistic approach that is required to good brake upgrades.

That means good cold stopping as you leave Falkirk or anyplace all year around, all ambient temperatures and road temperatures if its the family transport. again JMO.

Ive ran ds2500 for a while now, even through winter and never had problems stopping even when cold! and when there hot the awesome.... wouldnt use anything else

Like i said now several times, why would they not stop you?

they are brake pads.

They are supposed to be awesome at stopping when hot.

That is what you are paying for.

Nothing will ever go wrong with them obviously!.

Just be sure, if you have not done & go and get them tested on a MOT tester cold,

you probably have had a MOT & know they are good.

You know for certain that they meet the minimum 'Braking Efficiency' required for your vehicle, or indeed exide it by lots..

The reason i say that is, because if god forbid a child walks out in front of you and you do not stop or those brakes snatch and lock when cold.

The Crash Investigator will be putting your car through the checks & inspecting the pads that are fitted on your road car.

The early EBC pads were s***e.

However, I fitted some EBC ceramic Redstuff pads to my old Fabia, and they were amazing, once bedded in properly.
