My seat is crippling me

Featured Replies

Its only started recently but I now get out of the car after just a short journey with a numb arse which after a while develops into near pain. After examining the seat and moving around, it seems that the bolsters are so hard that they are starting to cut off the circulation just below my hips.

I'm a thin guy but I've tried many different adjustments without success and am actually considering buying some kind of cushion. I'd really like to not have to do that though and don't understand how the seats can be designed so badly? They courtesy Octavia's I have had have better side bolsters on the seat back and less agreesive bolsters on the seat base making them more comfortable to be in. I've never had this problem in any other car and drive my parters Auris without any issue at all.

I can see from searching on the forum that I'm not alone in feeling the seats are below par.

I'm afraid you're not, no. I'm hoping that the seat base sides will ease with wear and I the meantime I too might have to consider a cushion of some sort.

man up, or buy a rover???

From what I have seen different specs of Superb seem to have different seats, as well as seat cover material. My S has fabric covers, which are ok, the seat is well cushioned, and firm, while the bolster does its job but does yield if required.

I find SWMBOs Yaris seats uncomfortable now- too soft, with back support in wrong place and seat base too short compared to Superb. I have had Toyotas for many years, (Avensis, Verso, Corolla) but none had seats as comfy as the Superb.

Having had a nosey at a few Superbs with leather seats I would say the difference in appearance of the seats is noticable, not sure what others think

Yep, I feel you pain literally, thought I had sorted my seat issues but it's still going on, I consider myself to be in good shape so it's not an issue with my size

After 20k it appears to having gotten worse which is odd, of course the car could be fine and I may have an issue with my back.

Interesting that you also feel its become worse. Went out in a 130,000 mile, 11 year old 5 series today. Nice and comfortable seats.

I'm going to play with the seat again later today, I got my neighbour to sit in it yesterday to see if it was me imagining things. He also commented that the seats were rock hard.

I'm going to find a solution to this though, I can't be bothered with the hassle of changing car again plus I like everything else in the superb

I've just driven almost 500 miles in our superb today - all of it towing so with a ferry break just shy of 13 hours in the seat.

No problems at all - had problems when I first got the car but realised this was down to working in the kitchen (poor chair and table combo) rather than my office most of July so that I could watch the tour de France on tv.

Got the ventilated seats and yes they are hard but do the job.

There have been other threads on this subject and some have found that when they alter the height of the seat and the seat squab in relation to their position that this has made a dramatic difference.

Just driven the car for 10 minutes and it's as bad as ever. Right now I'm thinking it's either a cushion or sell it. Adjustments seem to make no difference.

I think it's absurd that the Skoda can park itself, stream music from my iPhone, regenerate braking energy but the seat is worse than any car I've owned before (honestly) and the clutch still creaks badly in hot weather.

Getting quickly fed up.

It is amazing how we are different. I have driven lots of different cars and at times high milage and I found that the VX Insignia was the most uncomfortable, 407 seats very comfy and the superb 1 in the middle but the Superb 2 very comfortable including 400 mils plus journeys. It did take some time to get the most comfy position though especially with the seat height and seat squab positions.

Me too, Danny 57. Even though I'd had a car on test for 2 days before I ordered I was a little worried about all the posts on here about uncomfortable seats. I followed some others' advice, setting the cushion low and tilted up at the front and I am very comfortable. No complaints at all. I don't find the seats too hard but I am approx 16st so it's probably an uneven fight.

Its just the bolsters on the cushion, They are far too close together and far too hard. I have a 32" waist so I'm quite narrow but the bolsters are constantly pressing against my thighs and my hips arn't wide enough to actually sit 'on' the bolsters to squash them down. No problems in the Octavia and I bet the 'S' Superb without leather would be fine.

I'm not getting back or shoulder pain and when I sit in any other car I can feel how much more comfortable the seat is straight away. I think whats happened is 7,000 miles has squashed the base of the seat down abit so now the bolsters press against me even more which is why its only started happening recently. I can only see it getting worse too.

I have a similar problem in my octavia (also leather) but only happens on longer journeys say 2hrs+ in that I get a numb arse and sore thighs which gets uncomfortable and I find a backfriend helps even though I don't have back problems as the base on the backfriend is more supportive

I believe the problem is that the seat base is just too narrow. This, I think, is due to the positioning of the electric seat buttons. If they were moved to, say, the door, then the seat base could be made wider and maybe more comfortable. Is it worth passing this idea along to Skoda Customer Services, or don't they do `Feedback`? (Isn't it strange that when you type `Skoda` its underlined in red and you're offered the alternatives `Soda` or Kodak` )

They won't care, they got your money now.

I've driven to the Belgium GP in spa, via Bruges. I'm surprised how comfortable the journey has been considering all the back issues i've had with t recently.

I drove my MK2 superb elegance from Hertfordshire to the Costa Del Sol via Calais twice with a car full of passengers, driving 4,500 miles on each occasion over 3 weeks. After both trips, I had no back problems and found the superb to be the most comfortable up to this year that I had made that trip in. My passengers were also fine, despite having spent more than 10 hours a day for 3 days sitting in their seats.

It did did take a lot of seat adjustments to get the right seating position, but once found and store in the seat memory which is tied to the key never had a problem in the 44,000 miles I covered whilst I owned the car. Yes the seats are quiet firm, all VAG group cars are and always have been, but they are supportive in all the right places if you get the position right.

I am quiet short, with very short inside legs.

I have to say that in the first week of owning it I had a dull ache at the bottom of my back, specially by day 7, but since then it has died off and disappeared. Yesterday was my longest working day in it yet. I spent approximately 9.25 hours in it yesterday, 5.9 hours were actual driving and 3.35 hours waiting in between jobs, and yet today my back feels great. Must have got used to the seat after what is now 3 weeks of ownership.

If you go back to the OP you will see that his concern was not for his back but for his upper thigh, (right hand side in my case). That's what I too have a problem with...because of the excessively firm side bolsters on the base and, as I said, the fact its just too narrow...IMO

Exactly. Its still a problem and I can see no resolution to it outside of a cushion of some sort. The car has been in to the dealership 4 times for a creaking clutch pedal which is still not fixed. It goes in again on Wednesday for a 5th time to a 3rd dealership in an attempt to resolve it. I have had to wait over 3 weeks before they could take it in due to have no courtesy cars available.

I have a rattle from the left of the dash meaning I have to drive the car without the covering panel in place revealing a giant hole in the dash everytime anyone opens the passenger door. The right side rattles too but not as often or as bad. The nav seems to be fixed (it would loose satellite fix and become completely inacurate), the drivers window no longer grinds when moving up and I'm hoping that too remains fixed.

I continue to find it absurd that the car can be so good in some ways (quality of the door close, gear engagement, steering, ride quality) and so bad in others (creaking clutch, rattles, seats that clearly underwent almost no testing).

I am fully expecting to get the car back on Friday (the day before I get married) with the clutch pedal problem remaining.

I feel for you mate. I dunno how old your car is...mine is just 7 weeks today...so maybe I have all your probs to look forward to! Put everything else to one side, mate, and have a FANTASTIC time next Saturday. All the very best to you.

Mike.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to it, just wish I wasn't still trying to get my car fixed after 4 months (picked it up late April)

Seems as though the seat has to be almost flat to avoid right thigh pain. My Physio says this seat position is good for me, so it's a double benefit. I'm 16 stone, BTW.

When you say `flat`, do you mean `level`... neither tilted up nor down?
