Ok - so let me get this straight.....

Featured Replies

All this stuff about tow bars on the Vrs not being "type approved" by the manufacturer.

So here's my point:-

312mm brake setup - not type approved, but a well known upgrade

Coilovers - not type approved

Wheels - not type approved

Exhaust, air filter, remap, strut bars, rear arb. None of these are type approved either.

What's the difference???

I think if you look at the V5 theres no Kerb weight or Towing Weight listed (on the V5 ) therefor not approved for towing.

Nothing to say you can't fit one, but you can't use it if you do

I think thats it

It's a question of legislation and compliance. The government hasn't legislated your car should have brakes of a particular type - but it has with tow bars. Legally there's nothing you can do.

I suspect if you really wanted a vRS with a towbar, you could buy a non-vRS and rebuild it as a vRS - you could then legally fit a towbar...

Has anyone got a vrs with a tow bar fitted? One of thosh quick detatch ones would be ideal for me!

I have a detachable toe bar on my vrs and it's grate got it fitted by inderspenchion when I first asked them they said there is no toe bar listed for the vrs model. I said get the standered model one then and give it ago. Reluctantly the bloke ordered it and two weeks later it went on like a glove he said the chasy was exactly the same. And my god the vrs with a map can't half pull a trailor

The chassis may be exactly the same but as has been said before any vRS with a towbar fitted even if not being used for towing is technically driving without insurance since their car isn't legal. The car remains illegal even if your insurance company decides it will cover it after all. The lawyers could have a field day in a contentious litigation scenario.

Cool best b careful then
