Octavia Diesel hot starting problems? Anyone any similar experiences or solutions?

Featured Replies

Hello, bought the allegedly reliable Octavia diesel 5 months ago and so far have had to replace both front brake calipers and now it is very reluctant to start when hot? Has anyone else experienced this problem on the octavia diesel and if so what was the solution?

I am planning on replacing all the filters and seeing if that helps but is it DPF related!

Other faults to date;

have already replaced 2 rear brake light bulbs and the warning light is on again!!!

the cruse control just randomly decides not to engage

oh and it crashes over everything at the front end as if there are no front shock absorbers which would suggest they need replacing.

Any useful experiences, guidances or advice most welcome.

I too got one about a month ago and have been down this route also.

Apparently the ECU is programmed to look for a minimum crank speed when hot before injecting fuel. So a worn starter motor, sluggish battery, poor earth connections or faulty temperature sensor can all effect this. Many people have found that by changing the battery for a new one solves the problem. I have just replaced mine - it was the original and six years old. It has helped, but has not completely eliminated this "problem". When cold its instant, when hot it needs a spin of a couple of seconds.

Bye the way, are you sure you have a DPF? I thought they weren't fitted until 2008? Mine is Mk2 2005 1.9 TDi and doesn't have a DPF - thankfully.

as above, battery/starter/temp sensor

temp sensor would be my first followed by battery, only cos of costs. Is your temp needle reliable?

Hello Steve and welcome along :thumbup:

Update to this.

I would say now that the new battery has improved the hot start considerably, so if you have an old battery, go ahead and replace it.

A quick check would be to use a set of jump leads. If it starts straight up when warm it's probably the battery.

+1 :thumbup:

And you can use a single jump lead as a by-pass, which can help show up if you've an earthing issue.
