ABS Speed Sensor code problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

My ABS and ESP lights came on simultaneously a couple of weeks ago and have stayed on. I jacked the car and immediately realised that I had a seized rear caliper. With an ever optimistic leap of faith I assumed that this might be causing the error lights.

I've now changed the caliper and plugged a VAG code reader in to clear the faults; unfortunately its giving me two errors:

ABS wheel speed sensor Front Right G45 Sporadic

012 Electrical fault circuit

I'm quite happy with agricultural stuff like brakes, but tend to fight shy of anything involving electrickery.

From experience out there, does the 'Sporadic' indicate a circuit issue (as code 012 suggests) or will a new sensor (£23 Eicher from Eurocar parts) fix it?

Any thoughts welcomed.

I would try pulling the plug off can giving is a good clean with some WD40 and check the wires havent broken under the rubber (they are very thin). You can get a replacment section of loom or plug from the dealers if you need it but it will need to be spliced into the existing loom.

I've just had a look at the sensor......the wiring 'looks' OK but who knows what lurks beneath the protective sheath! More concerning was the bolt that retained the sensor. Its either a bolt that has become hopelessly rounded off or, I suspect, an allen key which has become full of crap and rust. I could just about get the first 1mm of a 4mm allen key in but had no room (or inclination considering it was just up on a trolley jack and I dont have a replacement bolt) to start hammering anything home.

Can anyone confirm that this IS an allen key before I make an arse of myself!

Note to self: stop fannying around and buy a bloody Haynes manual.......I bought one of those Skoda Workshop Manual on a CD off ebay a couple of days ago but the Adobe software it requires is so old and untrustworthy that I'm returning the damn thing.

Had that problem with a golf I had. It was an allen bolt but was badly rounded off. I never got round to sorting it as I eneded up getting shot of the car.

Yes it is a Allen key bolt M6 x16 long. See below:-
