Oooops . . . Yeti + Gate Collide - SWMBO Not At Fault!

Featured Replies

Due to the unexpected operation of an electric gate coinciding with SWMBO's momentary mental lapse, the rear of the Yeti and said gate colided :(

Now obviously this was NOT, I repeat NOT, SWMBO's fault, as I have been reminded several times today, but there is some resulting damage (not to the gate, I hasten to add).

There is a small crack to the bumper, which I'll probably leave for now, a broken rear light lens (hopefully straightforward to replace) and a broken black plastic bit above the lens. Question is, how easy is the black bit above the lens to replace and does anyone have a part number for a drivers side item and cost?

Hopefully, if this can be rectified quickly and reasonably cheaply, marital harmony can resume :giggle: .

Can't help with the part you're interested in, but you may be wise not to deal with the bumper cover. Someone ran into the back of our stationary Yeti, necessitating a new bumper cover at their insurer's expense. Our body shop duly ordered the part from Skoda UK. It arrived damaged. So did the next one they ordered. And the next one. And the next one.

The fifth one, though not perfect, was good enough to fit.

Why people deliver parts by just hurling them with almost no protection into the back of a van I do not understand. Still, the plumbing supplies trade seems even worse. When we replaced central heating radiators recently, a radiator grille was damaged on arrival. So were the next SEVENTEEN replacements. A plumber told me the wastage rate in the radiator trade is around 40%. So long as customers continue to pay for it by way of higher prices, evidently nobody cares.

A new rear bumper for the Yeti is aprox £236-00!.

Couldn't find any of the trim panels so will have a look for the part no.

edit believe the D panel cover is 5L6853216041 for the offside.

I did know exactly how much that rear trim was (had to have one when swmbo had a disagreement with a motorbike :@ ) but lost the invoice looked but can't find it :wonder: .

The rear side window and trim plus a bit of polishing to remove a layer of plastic left by the bike was just over £450 :o , but the window and glue came to about £300 with fitting. So I don't think the trim was that expensive.

Thanks for that TP.

I think our Yeti deserves ONLY genuine parts.

As for the D panel trim, is there anything in the parts manual to suggest it requires special clips? I'm presuming that the inner D panel cover will be need to be removed to access?

SWMBO has now blamed the slowness of the heated mirrors to clear away the condensation on the lenses. As previously said, not her fault :notme: .

How long have you been married?

You haven't learnt it is NEVER her fault yet?

You're right there, but I just wish I could absolve myself of responsibility so easily ;)

Repair guide software not working at the moment, will try reinstalling it tomorrow and if I can get it working will post remove fit instructions for the D trim, unless anybody else can help in the mean time.

Regards,

TP

as for bumper cover, may be cheaper to get one of the smart repair guys out to give you a quote, depending on the size of the crack
