Close windows using the key.... mk1 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi, anyone any ideas why the ability to close the windows using the key in the lock would of stopped working?

It's not something i've used that often in the past, infact i can't recall when i last did, but a few times in the last month or two i have gotten out the car and realized i have left the windows, or sunroof open so attempted to shut them by inserting the key and turning, and for some reason it appears to have stopped working! It's no biggy, but just a bit annoying that it should just stop working....

Any ideas?

Steve

Assuming you're doing it the right way - Ie you have to keep the key held for a few seconds after the doors have fully locked/fully opened, then there's probably a problem somewhere.

It might be a failure in the CCM (central convieniance module), that's all I can think of, if you haven't altered any wiring in the door lock over the years

AFAIK, this isn't a standard feature on any Mk1 Fabia, vRS or not. It requires a piece of software from t'internet and isn't even possible using VCDS alone. I know, I tried a few weeks back with a guy well up on his VCDS systems. He described it as 'the Holy Grail'. Only way to open and shut them without being inside the car is by using the key in the lock and hold it to the right or left depending if you want them to open or close for ~ 2 seconds.

It is standard - its in the manual!

Awesome, just popped out to try the key in the lock way! Never knew that. Is there a way with using the fob?

Correct!!

You can close the windows using the key in the door on any 6Y fabia with electric windows fitted as Lee describes above.

You can not close the windows using the remote fob on a 6Y fabia without aforementioned hardware technology from IIRC 'Alientech' and some software from a chap in Albania or the like.

Highlighted in the quote is what i'm talking about, it's pretty much what i wrote in my op..... I have had the car 4 years and it has always worked in that time, well, at least for three & half of them at least (im not sure exactly when it stopped) I just can't understand why it would of stopped working, i know it's a standard feature as it's in the manual, but can it be programmed in/out?

Another reason i ask is that i would like to perform the disconnect battery tune up as described here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/244178-simple-cheap-diy-tune-up-brilliant/#entry2866332

Towards the end of the guide it talks about resetting the electric windows and describes how to to do it:

To reset the electric windows insert the key into the drivers door lock, and turn the key so that the windows fully wind up and the motors stop, then hold the key in this turned position for a further 4 secs. Job done

I'm concerned that if i perform this tune up i may not be able to reset the windows....

I reset the windows by turning ignition on & holding the buttons up for a second or two, then down till the windows are all the way down and hold for a second or two then release. Hey presto, one touch working again. Dunno why you`d want to disconnect your battery out of choice though?
