2004 1.9tdi- mway speeds-no boost? sometimes

Featured Replies

Hi,

We have a 2004 octivia estate(that we like, quite a bit)

it seems much quicker than our (same year) renault grand scenic 1.9dci(dont ever buy one) but a couple of times on the motorway it seems to lack power, ie having to drop to 4th to keep up to 70 and most other times it goes really well pulling from 2k

we have only had it 2 weeks and it was serviced about a month before we got it

I have not had a chance to look at anything and they go away for a week on saturday

Its not a huge problem(at the moment) and we are getting good mpg

Cheers

This seems to have ended up in the wrong forum.

Is the car the 110bhp TDi? If so the car is going into limp mode by the sound of it and the problems is probably......

STICKY TURBO VANES!!!

Well known problem, quite a few threads, currently thinking is to break out the marigolds and let loose Mr Muscle.

Report your post and ask for it to be moved.

Have asked via report, its a 130pd

less likely to be sticky vanes then. You need to get the car scanned for fault codes really.

thanks, will do

Do any warning lights come up on dash when it happens?

No way you should need 4th gear to keep up to 70mph... they are like a rocket ship on the motorway at that speed (should be pretty much right where the turbo is spooled up).

It should feel much faster than the Renault DCI engine due to the way the engine and injection works on the PD engines.

Could still be sticky veins. Search Mr muscle turbo treatment.

130s don't have variable vanes I think? Sure I've never read about one suffering from sticky ones

I would start by making sure the fuel filter is good---40K is just too much and don't trust the dealers it's not a good idea to run fast and long on a hot day with a nearly empty tank--as if you would :-)

MAF maybe....

I dunno if the the 130 is variable vane based or not.

Ah I didnt realise that. Good ol waste gate for 130 then. Turbo actuater valve? Vacuum pipe leak?

could be n75 or vacuum leak as well...

The PD 130 is definitely a variable vane turbo. There are reports of sticking vanes with the Fabia vRS.

Also mine definitely has an actuator on the turbo and no wastegate.

Phil

I did wonder like. Back to the muscle.

You need to get the car scanned for faults first rather than guessing why it drops into limp mode.
