Good job ECP are open on BH Monday

Featured Replies

It's a good job Euro Car Parts are open on Bank Holiday Monday!

Drove to Ilkley late yesterday afternoon, and was getting a slight judder from the brakes. When I got there late afternoon (at the in-laws) I noticed that the O/S/F wheel was slightly warm to the touch, and the N/S/F wasn't.

Thinking the worst, I thought I might have a wheel bearing seizing on me.

Anyway, jacked the car up this morning on the in-laws drive and there was no play in the bearing at all, but the disc appeared to be slightly warped as it was binding in the caliper at a certain point when rotating the wheel.

Drove home today and got the tools out. The disc is warped slightly after taking the caliper off etc. to check it wasn't just a sticking caliper or something like that. Also verified that without the caliper on everything rotates nice and freely with no strange noises or play.

I have been thinking of upgrading to 312mm fronts for a while, and managed to pick up a pair of 312mm sliders off of a Golf MkV PD170 at a very reasonable price a couple of weeks ago. So, where could I get discs and pads from on a Bank Holiday Monday at a reasonable price?

It was a pleasant surprise to find ECP are open from 9am tomorrow, so I have ordered the Pagid discs and pads using the 30% discount offer - about £85 for 312mm discs and pads! Can't complain at that!

Pick them up in the morning, and look forward to a road test before lunch of my new 312mm setup

Disks aren't split like that other thread?

Nope - O/S/F disc was very slightly warped.

New discs are on and road tested and all is well - taken it on a 25 mile gentle run to bed them in a bit and no vibration at all. Can't say what the braking performance is like as it is absolutely throwing it down and I was taking it easy to bed the new discs and pads in.

Good job Damo (Evil Miyagi) popped round as I needed to get a caliper rewind tool, I was just about to call a taxi! The O/S/F caliper seemed stiffer than the N/S to retract, and my old trick of a big hammer (and an old valve spring compressor) weren't shifting it enough. Wound it in, pumped it back out again further than normal (with just one old pad in) and wound it all the way back and now it seems fine. It went back a lot easier the second time round.

I am absolutely drenched though as I did most of the job in the pouring rain.

Glad it all went well :D

It did - in the end!

I must say, I didn't expect you to be open on a BH - and with the discount the price was very similar to the trade price I can get elsewhere, which was a bonus!

I was thinking I was going to fork out a fortune at retail prices if I could find anywhere with stock.

Not really going to try until tomorrow Mike - I will stick another couple of hundred miles on tomorrow and get some new dust shields fitted for the front discs (one fell off in my hand, the other is going the same way) and then will give it a try.

Initial indications without braking firmly are that there is significantly more stopping power, without it feeling out of balance to the front either.

Think I did see an old bus on Sunday when we were heading home!

We were at Burley, so drove back through Ilkley.

Yeah, I could have done a social, don't think the in-laws would have been too impressed, and they do a wicked roast lamb Sunday dinner :-)
