Best speakers for front and back of my Fabia

Featured Replies

Ok so following on, yesterday was the day that the install took place. Installed my 4 channel amp in the boot which was powered by a single 4 gauge power cable and distributed into 2x4 gauge cables. All cross overs and tweeters fitted plus my damaged speaker.

If you look at the file attached, you will see a picture of what my speaker looked like when i took it out (the one that stopped working) has anyone ever come across this before or seen anything like it?

After all the hours of yesterdays work, all was perfectly fine. Sound was great and good power all round for all speakers. Only had the amps gain on around half way as wanted to take it easy on the front speaker to begin with bear in mind the amp is 75w x 4 RMS whereas the front speaker is 50W RMS Min and rated at 100W RMS. Well driving home this morning playing music, no distortion at all when all of a sudden my new right speaker starts sounding all muffled. It now sounds crackly and like farting. How on earth can another speaker go wrong again (espically on the same side). Bear in mind all the other ones are perfectly fine. Would this be a sign of blowing?

I looked through the doors grill where the speaker is hidden and after a visual look, it seems fine. Anyone got any input as this is really frustrating. I've never blown a speaker before and there was no way these were being over driven. Got to be a bad quality product?

Could be the speaker cable. Need something meatier than the original cable.

Would like to think so. Funny enough i do have a faint memory of something similar happening with my old pionner speakers in my old fiesta, think a wire came loose as mentioned...

I did use the Vibe flat speaker cable provided in the wiring kit... Will check the amp connection first.

How easy is it to take off the drivers door? bear in mind that i never done this myself, a friend done all the work...

The door or the door card? The door card is very easy to remove.

Pop off the trim holding the window buttons, slide the trim behind it forwards and off and undo the 3 screws. Then pop off the plate in the door handle, either an electric mirror switch or blanking plate or tweeter depending on which door, and undo the t20 screw behind that. Then undo the 3 T20 screws at the bottom of the door card, then using a spatula pry off the card as it is hold on by plastic rivets that just pop out - once one has popped the others fully nicely! Once done, the door card just lifts off - but b careful and detach any cables (like the door handle wire) as you go.

0 gauge does fit I have it in mine it is tight though grommets but can't see under the trim

Either swap speakers left to right or play music whilst "waggling" the speaker cables... Could also be a bad RCA/pre-amp connection. Can try swapping left/right inputs on the amp and seeing if the problem moves.

Yeah i'll give that a go!

did check the connections in the amp and they are not moving so are secure but i'll have a go... Haven't had a chance to remove door panel as i don't have the T20 screw driver :/ So bliming annoying! Can't believe it's gone wrong again though.

My dad has all Alpine components subs and amps with soundproofing which he gives absolute hell and not a problem, sounds very good as well!

T20s are normal in multikits if you have one.

Ok i found out what the problem was, turns out that on the speaker that wasn't playing properly, the speaker wire was slightly torn and touching metal :/ so the speaker is pretty much useless now.

Installed the spare speaker and have to say the speakers combined with the sub sound very good. They even sound really good at high volume as well which is a plus, have to say though the tweeters are very powerful and may have a look at turning them down a bit. I installed the tweeters in the same location as where the rear speakers are as on the rear doors, it's a bit too close to my ears...

Only problem i have now is needing to upgrade the car battery as when turning the volume up, the lights dim

I disconnected my rear tweeters!

I was going to leave them out however they dont sound bad right at the back of the car. Good listening for the passengers in the rear

Ok anyone had one of these batteries before?

Any ideas on if it would aid my issue with lights diming?

I have that battery, but I only have a subwoofer installed running 200w RMS.

The battery might help, but also look into upgrading your battery wires, known as the "big three". These include the wire between the chassis and battery negative terminal. Earth engine strap. And alternator positive to battery positive. These help your car's alternator provide the power required.

Power caps are often considered to be a way to deal with such issues, but they're generally looked down on/considered as completely unnecessary.

Hmm hopefully the battery will help but yeah i will look into the big 3 as well. Only just had an alternator replacement (standard one) done under warranty. Don't fancy replacing it again.

Is the big 3 a quick easy job?

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok changed the battery to an Exide one which is 77Ah and 760CCA. Made no difference at all in terms of lights flickering so going to look into the big 3 as really don't fancy straining the alternator...

As for the Vibe Litair6, don't even bother with them. They seem to be held together by some sort of glue? shown in the picture above, they fall apart. Has happened to a total of 3 now and counting which as you can imagine is very irritating and not good. Contacted Vibe for an explenation and they said they will inform the R&D team to ensure this can't happen again. They are Sending me Blackair 6's as a replacement however thinking of it, don't think im going to be happy with them due to the reviews not being as good. Would like to have gone with the Space components however they seem to be on the deep side which the door won't accomodate
