roof box........

Featured Replies

How can something that is so useful when being used be some damn awkward and clumsy when you are trying to hide it somewhere between uses!

I have just been in the garage trying to hang it from the ceiling, or off a wall, I even tried to cram it under the bench and every time the damn roof box was too big or too tall or too fat to fit anywhere, short of shoving the damn thin out in the garden under a hedge I am defeated as to where to put it away to!

So any of you guys who use one, what the hell do you do with it between outings?

leave mine in the garage. I have long since relinquished the use of my garage for bloke type stuff, in favour of storage space for stuff that doesn't fit in the house......

Friend has a garage with a loft - Job done! He has forgot it is in there i think ;)

Leave mine outside but used to put it in the loft as I had a big loft hatch in the old house.

Thankfully have lots of space outside and it hides behind a big laurel.

Mine goes on a BIG shelf I made in the garage.

Stands up in the shed. Well currently it's stood up in one of the stores at our scout hall...

Aldi/Lidl do bike winch/lift things every so often, Would that do the trick?

Once my garage is sorted enough to get into without having to take things out first, I'll look at slinging it from the ceiling or summat

I tried the roof hoist but not enough space as the up and over door is at the front and the light is at the back, I will make it fit but I feel a big job coming up!

Just the ticket, thanks!

'Fasty' roof hoist - sends the box up close to the garage ceiling so SWMBO can still park her Nissan Note in the garage under it. Works well for what is little more than a couple of metal strips, some webbing and couple of friction stoppers. It came free with the roofbox (a Kamei Corvara), all I had to do was screw the plates into a couple of joists.

Edit: who am I kidding - I still have to manhandle the blasted thing into the straps on my own every time it needs to be put away. It doesn't weigh much but it's a blimmin' awkward shape.

'Fasty' roof hoist -

I got one of these with my roof box and was considering using it instead of the shelf, but it looks a bit awkward especially with a big roof box. it would be handy to have the extra space as I got to store an extra set of summer wheels and tyres this winter.

I looked at mine and thought it's never going to work, but it does and quite well really. It's definitely a better use of space if you have the height in your garage.

Just be careful how you position the straps - get them where you want them - before you fully screw the plates home.
