Bluetooth OBD

Featured Replies

Now that would solve the problems with connecting PDA's to Vag com now as most PDA's have bluetooth.

Interesting, but imho overpriced and I wouldn't trust the reliability of Bluetooth for writing things back to the ECU ;) - for reading it's great though :)

Tele diagnosis is allready here. Plans are in place (as is the diagnosis) for that to be built into a cars engine ECU so fault codes can be read on the fly. Idea being that authorities can check to see if you are driving a car with an engine management light on and not conforming to emission regulations from the side of the road.

That's cool by me ;) - the main thing I've got against the wireless read/write is this however: if you can connect, so can someone else. If someone else can connect, you can reprogram the ECU. Imagine the joy when you find your car stolen or your ECU damaged as someone has been messing about with it..

Just imagine the concept - you could turn off someone's engine by reprogramming the ECU and activating the immobiliser. Hopefully someone will think about these aspects as part of these plans :D

I can certainly see a great market for products which use the standardised info however, on a more positive note :D - also the price will come down if it becomes a standard across Europe

Bluetooth on PC's require you pair with a device before you do anything on it so you would need to know the security code on the ECU before you could do anything but what a good concept if you COULD hack someones ECU I suspect carjacking would go up :D

Bluetooth security codes can be hacked very, very quickly ;)
