EGR cooler

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a BLT engine, and once i have sourced a EGR delete which leaves the ASV in, id like to block the EGR off at the exhaust manifold.

This will leave the EGR cooler though as i have the BLT engine. From looking down the back of the engine, i see a pipe from the exhaust manifold to a kind of tube, with a few tubes connected to it, then the pipe from this to the EGR valve. Can you let me know what the tubes are, and where they go?! Does water pass through them? Also how to remove/block them off as they disappear around the engine somewhere??

Thanks,

Mike

Coolant travels through the pipes. Remove the cooler and replace with a pipe. Here's a pic of the cooler off my Cupra TDI in the centre PICT0014.jpg

So you can simply join the two ends which are left together so they just flow together? What would i do this with? A length of pipe and some metal 'joiners' with jubilee clips??

god this seems like a big pain in the arse hole, begining to think just leave the egr in closed

Exactly my thinking!

It's only a metal pipe I will look into this for you when I finish the egr delete, I don't want to get to much on as it will just get into a mess so il stick with the egr then onces that's complete move onto the next thing :)

Just leave it in place, you won't see it as its bolted to the intake manifold behind the engine.

I thought id remove it as im going to change the turbo, and intercooler setup anyway, plus it tidies up the area when it come to refitting it all. If its too much hassle (eg, i cant just join the two pipes together) then i'll leave it in place probably.

I was hoping i can join the two pipes with a piece of copper pipe and some jubilee clips as the two pipes should be long enough as they are quite close together. (see the two pipes pointing to the left at 45 degree angle in pic below)
