brake servo sticking/holding brakes on?

Featured Replies

I have a problem with the brakes on my 1970's skoda 1203 in that the brakes seem to stick on for 10secs - 1min after pumpimg. Ive adjusted the brakes and now think the servo is the problem as signalled by the brake lights staying on...any ideas why this would happen? Adjustment or replacement?

Thanks

Moved to correct forum.

I'd suspect a sticky caliper or wheel cylinder rather than the servo in the first instance.

Get the car up on 4 axle stands (or a wheel-free lift if available), and 4 mates. Apply and release the brake pedal, and then see which wheel(s) are sticky or locked. If you're correct about servo/master cylinder it will be all of them, and if my suspicion is correct, it'll only be one or 2.

I've seen a case where the issue was the shoe return springs for drum brakes, so the self-servoing action was clamping the drums on until you reversed.
