HELP ME!

Featured Replies

hi guys,

today i was stuck in traffic, was stationary i had my clutch fully to the floor in first gear holding the car on the foot brake as i went to pull away the clutch stayed on the floor and the car stalled, so i turned the car off and pulled the clutch pedal back up (with ease) and pulled away fine....so my first question is what could have caused the clutch pedal to stay down but then come up and be fine?

also my clutch before this happened used to slip well i say slip but this would only happen if i asked too much of the car and the revs would go up to 3000rpm stay there and then pull away but if i went into a lower gear it wouldnt happen now i know this is because the car has 300ft lb of torque but after the incident above this isnt happeneing so any thoughts on that?

and lastly i take it the clutch is hydraulic :/ but i was wandering how the clutch wears as in does the bite point move up or down the more worn the clutch is?

cheers for your time guys

chris

the more worn, the higher up the bite. Seems as though it was a slave cylinder issue that has now sorted itself and no doubt costing you less by roughly the amount it costs to buy a clutch

mind you if it happens again, your master cylinder could be at fault

cheers lofty79 but before this it slipped when i put my foot down in lets say 5 below 2500rpm but now it doesnt.....i tested this by driving up quite an incline in 6th gear at 45mph put my foot to the floor and the car just acclerated no slip no nothing? just all seems a bit weird how it happened in traffic with no harsh gear changes.

From your description of the pedal staying down it sounds like the master cylinder is on the way out.

like i say if the slave cylinder was misaligned for some time or something like that. Either way SOMETHING hasnt been letting the pressure plate release fully, up until this happened. Now you have what would appear to be a correctly functioning clutch, where before it appeared to be worn.

Could also be that a clip at pedal end has been incorrectly inserted from day one until it came free, letting pedal stay down but releasing the clutch, you pulling it back up has possibly correctly located it.

master cylinder could be it still though so keep a close eye on it. its not a big job
